I first met author Austin Camacho in Chicago a few years ago. He was one of hundreds of authors at the Love Is Murder conference – one of the best in the Midwest for writers of all genres, but especially mystery.
Austin had this natural charm that immediately made me want to chat with him. With an enthusiasm unsurpassed by others, he told me about his signature character, Hannibal Jones, a PI who tries to right wrongs.
From that moment on, I was hooked, and made certain to keep in touch with this burgeoning self-published author. Austin is everywhere, conducting book signings, keeping in touch with readers via a monthly eLetter. He is an avid social networker, and you can find him on MySpace, Facebook, and other popular sites.
The Hannibal Jones series includes four detective novels, Blood and Bone, Collateral Damage, The Troubleshooter, and Damaged Goods. He also penned two action adventure novels, The Payback Assignment and The Orion Assignment. Active in several writers’ organizations, Austin also teaches writing at Anne Arundel Community College. After a career as a military news reporter on the American Forces Network, he is now a public affairs specialist for the Defense Department.
Austin has sold thousands of his novels as a Print-On-Demand author, a self published author, and as a writer published by a small press. He also wants you to succeed as an author, and he shares everything he has learned in a decade of self-promotion in his new book, Successfully Marketing Fiction in the 21st Century.
He lives in Springfield, Virginia with his lovely wife Denise and Princess the Wonder Cat.
This week, I chat it up with Austin once again about life, writing and his new book.
