Book Tour: Katherine Adam & Charles Derber
It’s a contentious election year for Democrats, and no one will likely know the party’s presidential nominee until the Democratic Convention in August. But authors Katherine Adam and Charles Derber are staking their claim that Barack Obama will be the nominee in their book, The Feminized Majority.
Before the Web, it took some digging to find out when and where your favorite authors were on tour. Then, it wasn’t always easy to get to the venue. If you were lucky enough to make it, then chances were you could not get any good face time with the author because of the line of people also waiting for an autograph and a handshake.
The Internet has changed that. Now, authors are only a Google search and button click away. We meet them on MySpace, share jokes with them on FaceBook, and find out what they are reading on Shelfari. With the invention of the blog, we can now hear from them directly and learn about their lives and latest projects via virtual book tours.

But authors Katherine Adam and Charles Derber are staking their claim that Barack Obama will be the nominee in their book, The Feminized Majority. They say Obama embraces traditionally feminine values like justice, non-violent international relationships and equality. His rival, Hillary Clinton, has three faces – one for the people, one for corporate interests, and one supporting Republican war stances.
This book is a result of an idea Adams had for her thesis. At Derber’s urging, the two collaborated to create The Feminized Majority – a perfectly-timed tome that is a must read for pundits on all sides of the political fence. Adam is now the Outreach Coordinator for the Philadelphia GROW Project of the Drexel University School of Public Health, which serves the needs of low-income children. She has been active in Democratic Party politics at the federal, state, and local levels, including interning for Senator John Kerry. Derber, a noted social critic, is Professor of Sociology at Boston College. He is the author of eleven internationally acclaimed books, including Corporation Nation, Hidden Power, and The Wilding of America. He has written for the Boston Globe, Newsday, and other mass media, and appears frequently on television and radio talk shows.
