Book Tour: Virtual Sitdown with Debbie Williamson
PS critic and blogger Angela Wilson chats it up with author Debbie Williamson.
Who is Debbie Williamson?
I am the author of Stand, mother, grandmother, wife, friend, accomplished business woman, and now writer.
How did your writing career begin?
When I made the decision to publish my memoir I also made the decision to write several other books when “Stand” was finished.
Tell us about your latest work.
Stand is a memoir of overcoming abuse and self destruction. It is a spiritual journey of healing through forgiveness and changing family patterns forever.
What compelled you to write it?
I was inspired to write Stand through my own healing and what it had done for my family. I knew that forgiveness was the only way to heal and change my family forever and when this proved itself to me I knew that I had to share my journey with the world. The idea was not my idea at all; I had kept journals about my life and the road to healing for my children. I knew that when they read my journals they would understand how abuse continues to spread to the next generation and I also knew they would understand how I stopped it from spreading to my children. It was when I became ill and thought I was leaving this world that my grandmother came to see me from the other side. She told me to write the book. She said it would not only help my children but it would help others. So I turned my journals and my mother’s journals into a memoir.
Was it difficult to share your life with complete strangers?
Yes at times, I never focused on that aspect of it though; I focused on the message about forgiveness and I stayed true to my promise to write the book.
What advice would you give to other women wanting to write their stories?
I would tell them to believe in what they want to share because dreams become miracles if you hold on to them.
Who is your greatest champion?
My mother, she was my hero and always will be.
Who inspires you?
My grandchildren inspire me more than anyone else ever could, they are my life.
What are you reading?
No Ordinary Moments by Dan Millman and Waiting for Normal by Leslie Connor.
What’s next for you?
My second book, Forgive Me – Healing the Child Within You, and a five series chapter book for young readers, The Big Mouth Bass.
