Wickedly sexy, delightfully twisty, the ninth book in the Argeneau vampire series will keep fans begging for more, and earn Sands new fans in the process.
I’d never read about the Argeneau family’s pursuit of love. Oh, I’d see Lynsay Sands’ novels peering out at me from bookstore shelves over the last few years, begging me to buy them. But after some lackluster offerings from other serial authors, I just wasn’t interested. I turned my tastes elsewhere, and avoided anything remotely tied to a series like the proverbial plague.
By the time Vampire, Interrupted arrived at my door, I was ready to dive back into a series with some romance, a dash of suspense, and, of course, great writing. I picked up the book – and found a new addiction.
Marguerite Argeneau is the family matriarch. Finally free of a horribly abuse marriage, she has no plans to fall in love with a lifemate. She never again wants someone to have control over her. After her husband’s death – and matchmaking efforts for her children – Marguerite decides to become a detective. She starts working for her daughter-in-law, and is eventually sent to find the missing mother of immortal Christian Notte.
Christian’s family has sheltered him for 500 years from the identity of his mother. No one will tell him anything, but some sly sleuthing nets him just enough information to give Marguerite and her partner, Tiny, a start. That is, until Christian’s father comes on the scene. Julius Notte is determined to keep the family secret, at any cost. But Marguerite is his lifemate, and when someone tries to kill her to keep the secret, he sticks around to protect her, and make her fall in love with him.
Sands brings her characters to life with a sharply-focused intimacy that only an author truly in touch with them can do. She offers up tidbits and updates about those featured in her previous novels through baby announcements and family gatherings, while still keeping this a stand alone novel. If it is your first, you will have no trouble delving into the story. Once finished, you might even find yourself at Amazon to start from the beginning.
You will get the title of the book about halfway through. This is one of the twists – no, I’m NOT going to spoil it for you. What I will tell you is it is one of the most unique takes on immortals that I have seen yet.
Warning to newbies: Do not read the family tree as I did before reading the book. One twist will be given away immediately. The other twist, well, if you read a lot of thrillers and mysteries, it won’t be difficult to pinpoint. Still, Sands writes with such charm and focus, it doesn’t matter. You are compelled by her words and style to continue reading until the very last word.
If you are looking for a hot vamp read, with dashes of romances and suspense, check out this book. It is guaranteed to whet your appetite for more Argeneau.
