Who is J.B. B. Winner?
J.B.B Winner is actually Jeff, Brittany and Brianna Winner a father, daughter, daughter writing team. Brittany and Brianna are 13-year-old identical twin sisters.
The father/daughters writing team J.B.B. Winner sits down for a virtual chat with book blog editor Angela Wilson.
How did your writing career begin?
Brittany: It started as a family project. At night before going to bed we would write with our dad.
He wanted to prove to us that our dyslexia was not preventing us from doing the impossible, writing a novel.
Brianna: When the novel was about half way done, he said we really had something great and asked us if we wanted to get it published. Especially since he knew there would be questions about our learning disabilities. It took us about a second to make the decision.
Tell us about your latest work.
We are have finished the second novel in the Strand series, Extinction Embrace and are now about 20,000 words into the third novel. We are writing screenplay adaptations and television adaptations.
The Strand series is 5 books plus a prequel, so 6 total. Now that we are writing the third book, our universe is built, and we can really play… it’s incredibly exciting.
What compelled you to write it?
Once we decided to publish the books, we decided that we would write a five-book series. We write together every day as a team.
How did you get the idea for it?
Brianna: We made up the ideas by combining everything we wanted in a story and putting it into a book.
Brittany: As long as we can remember we loved adventures stories and sci-fi. There was nothing better than our dad taking us to see a sci-fi movie and to the comic book store afterwards. We have been creating worlds with thousands and thousands of characters since we were young. So creating was nothing new to us.
The Strand Prophecy has won multiple awards making the two of you the youngest award winning novelists. What’s that like?
Brittany: When we started to write the book it was a father, daughter, daughter project and we really didn’t have any idea that people would like it. But now… well I am overwhelmed with the responses and overjoyed that so many people enjoy our book.
Brianna: We are really happy that people like our book! We are excited about our second book coming out soon and we are now writing screenplays. We love sci-fi but all our books and screenplays are really about people and trying to make things better.
You also tour around the country to promote reading and writing. How did that get started?
Brianna: We meet with a group of librarians to show them our book and we explained the background story. They asked us if we would be interested in coming to schools to talk to the students. They felt it was especially meaningful to have kids talk to kids. Once we started, it spread like wild fire to other schools and that was the beginning…
How do you juggle school, writing, touring, and home life?
Brittany: After the book was published, the public school system put us on a special independent study program, so we could tour schools and inspire other kids to read and write. We do our school work at night.
Brianna: We love to create so we write all the time.
Who is your greatest champion?
Brianna and Brittany: Our mom!
Who inspires you?
Brianna and Brianna: Our dad.
What are you reading?
Brittany: Isaac Asimov and Jules Verne
Brianna: Stephanie Meyer and Jules Verne
What’s next for you?
We are authoring a book with Jeffrey Gitomer, which we will formally announce soon. The next 12 months are going to be busy.
Where can we find you on the Web?
We have a great website www.StrandTheBook.com
