Is it really possible to be ultra chic on a budget?

Absolutely, many of the tips in my book are only a few dollars, like use Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) around your eyes to prevent wrinkles, or flaunt bold sunglasses. This is ultra glam. As soon as you put a pair on even if they are from a drug store, you will feel totally posh.

What are the top five mistakes women make when they try to go glam?

1. Mixing too many animal prints, only 1 please.
2. Wearing clothing that is not tailored. Just because it is from a high end store, it needs to fit your shape.
3. Using a knock off handbag. Seriously the number 1 way to be totally not glam.
4. Thinking you have to spend a fortune on beauty products and clothing.
5. Having no confidence, If you don’t walk with confidence and feel good about yourself, it is impossible to be glam.

101 Glam Girl Ways to an Ultra Chic Lifestyle is a fun girly book with 101 simple tips to glamorize your life instantly.  All the tips I have used over years of styling clients, writing online, and family secrets.  The illustrations are all done by hand - which is my favorite part of the book.  My FAV tips are #1 and #101.

What is it about fashion that drives you?

Fashion is art it is so expressive, it allows us all to show such personality, what we wear on the outside has a direct influence, on how we feel on the inside.  I love helping people feel good about themselves throught clothing, trends and style.

Barbie used to be your top model as kid. What fashions did you create in your youth that make you cringe? Was there anything you now find particularly clever?

I created many fashion don’ts growing up, probably the cropped tops, I loved wearing stomach baring tops growing up I would cut them, roll them up do what I could to make them cropped, and I think now OMG.  I was clever with spotting items that would be the next big thing and trying to make piece I saw in magazines and on TV.  I loved using old jewelry I had to make new pieces.

Tell us about Web Cam Fashionista. How do services like Fashionista change our shopping habits?

Web Cam Fashionista is one of my favorites to do. I virtually go into your closet to see what you have and how to wear it.  It is fun because we can be on opposite sides of the world and I can help create the perfect going out outfit or dress for success look.  So much shopping and trend spotting is happening virtually, having this new medium allows us all to be connected.  I send links to clients in an instant and with in a few days they have the items at their door step.

How does the Internet play a role in fashion trends? How quickly do trends change because of what is posted online?

Trends are moving at the speed of light, with social media like Twitter, YouYube and Tumblr. I see runway shows, photographer’s portfolio’s and celebrity styles daily.  We use to have to wait for magaiznes to dictate the trends, but now bloggers and stylist online can determine the trends.  We are totally connected to the heartbeat of the fashion industry.

What are the top three tips you follow to get glam for a night on the town?

1. Slip into a pair of designer pumps. I love my Christian Louboutins they make me feel fabulous no matter what I put on.
2.  I always accessorize, adding bangles that pop or a bold statement necklace can make even the simplest dress look glamorous.
3. Put on the sexy lingerie. It makes you feel so good, no one has to see it except you and you feel so luxurious.

What is the best buy you’ve found for your glam? Where should we go to find the best buys for our budgets?

There are lots of great finds. E.L.F. is a cosmetic line where everything cost $1 - great for lip glosses. Most of my cheap and chic finds are available at my store www.belladawn.com, and for shoes that are super stylish and wont totally break the bank topshop.com has them.  I like shopstyle.com. It is such a useful site to find exactly what you are looking for in your price range.

What are the key clothing items every girl should have in her closet?

A perfect fitting pair of dark wash jeans, a crisp white button down, a LBD (little black dress), a black pencil skirt, and a basic white tee.  I actually could go on but I guess that would be an extended “must have in your closet” list :-).
