Flash! Argh!

Here’s what I don’t get. How can Sci-FI think about canceling “The Dresden Files” and then put drivel like “Flash Gordon” on the air? It doesn’t make sense.

I know there are Flash fans who can’t wait for the debut of the series, but trust me, you can. It’s no less cheesy than the film and the dialogue and special effects are just as bad. Sci-Fi promises a 21st century spin on the classic, but I’m not seeing it.

The series begins with Flash (Eric Johnson) living at home with his mother and running a business with his friend. When his old flame Dale (Gina Holden) returns home to work at the local TV station he’s thrown. She’s engaged to someone else and Flash isn’t sure what to do, when it’s obvious they both still have feelings for one another.

But he doesn’t have much time to worry about it. Aliens are attacking his small town in search of something developed by Flash’s father. Soon Flash discovers there’s a whole other universe he didn’t even know existed and it’s up to him to save the day.

At its heart, this is a series about a good-hearted guy who only wants to do the right thing, and find his father. And it might have worked if the producers hadn’t gone for the cheesiest dialogue, wardrobe and special effects. Argh!

“Flash” premieres Friday on Sci-Fi.

There’s a new reality show about fat people trying to get thin. “Fat March” is much more inspirational than the name may imply. The contestants march more than 500 miles and drop the pounds as they go. Not only do they lose weight, but they also work through their troubles and discover they do have what it takes to make serious life changes.

It made me want to get off the couch and exercise – well, almost. “Fat March” premieres Monday.

I’m not crazy about the teen angst angle but I’ll still check it out.  FLASH....AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I’m all over this.  As long as they keep the flying bears.
