Heroes, Baseball and Christmas

I’m on the road this week, so this is short and sweet. You guys know how much I love “Heroes.” This week they are doing a big flashback episode where we see Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) just out of nursing school. Claire (Hayden Panettiere) has just joined the cheerleading squad and Mohinder’s (Sendhil Ramamurthy) dad is still alive.

So how can a flashback move a story forward? Executive producer Tim Kring says, “You will discover things about the characters as we go along and in the end it will all make sense. As we build toward the end of this story you learn more about what makes these people tick and how they became the way the are.” That man drives me crazy with the non answers, but I love his show.

New this week is the TBS series “My Boys” premiering Tuesday night. It stars Jordana Spiro as a sports reporter who is great at hanging out with the guys, but not necessarily dating them. It’s cute if you like that sort of thing. I sat down to watch the pilot so I could tell you if it sucked or not, and I ended up watching all four episodes they sent. I actually liked it. It’s kind of like “Sex and the City” but with guys and baseball analogies. Oh, and a lot less sex.

Spiro plays P.J. the ringleader of the gang. “I love that she has so many sides to her,” says Spiro. “We all do, but it’s great to have a character like her. She’s such a guy in a way, but she also has a feminine side. I’ve had to learn how to watch sports, drink beer and play poker. I know, it’s tough, a girl has to make sacrifices for her work.”

Also on Tuesday is the new ABC comedy “Big Day.” It’s about a couple getting married and each hour of the show is an hour in their wedding day. This one is hit and miss, but it does have some funny moments. And the couple, played by Marla Sokoloff and Josh Cooke, is adorable.

I love John Legend and he’s singing on the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special Wednesday night. Martina McBride, Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Bette Midler and a bunch of other folks also perform on the NBC show.
