Horror chicken?

After seeing “A Nightmare on Elm Street” I didn’t sleep for a week, and slept with the light on for the next year. I like them but horror films scare me. I never understood why, until I read an article by a friend of mine. In it she talked to a psychologist who said people with great imaginations are the most likely to be afraid, because we see more than most people do.

I love that I’m not a wimp. I’m imaginative.

Of course, that won’t keep me from catching as much of AMC’s Monsterfest this week as possible. They sent me a packet with several of the films they’ll be showing including, “Hellraiser,” “Nightmare on Elm Street” and several others. These are movies from my teens that scared the crap out of me. And they are movies that I’ll watch again, most likely through my fingers.

Do you ever watch “Supernatural,” which airs Thursdays on the CW? It’s hit and miss with the scary, but when it hits I sometimes have to push fast forward on the DVR. I know, I’m a big chicken. Other than “Ghost Hunters” I think it’s one of the scariest series on television.

The Nov. 2, episode of “Supernatural” Dean and Sam (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) meet the ghost of America’s first serial killer. Someone gets buried alive, which always freaks me out. Anyhoo, it sounds spooky.

Did you guys catch the first episode of Bravo’s “Top Chef” last week? It’s not scary at all, but I just can’t get into the show. It does fair ratings, I think because people are missing their “Project Runway” fix. I never liked Fox’s “Hells Kitchen” either. I love cooking shows, but I think maybe it’s nastiness of these shows that turns me off. I know that’s why most people watch, but it isn’t for me.

I am a big fan of the Food Network, and I love their competition shows. Cakes, cookies, sugar towers, those kinds of competitions, while not so great for my diet, fascinate me.  But I watch them and then all I want to do is eat.

And I don’t get the Rachael Ray backlash. I’ve heard some nasty comments about her recently. I’ve met her a couple of times and she’s the nicest. If it weren’t for her encouragement and those 30-minute meal ideas, I’d never get off my butt to cook.

I know, I’m rambling this week. But in a way it all makes sense. Scary movies make me nervous. When I’m nervous I eat. And I’m addicted to the Food Network, which doesn’t help the not thinking about food thing. Geez, I’m hungry just thinking about all this. I think I need a cheeseburger, chocolate milkshake and some “Hellraiser.”

I didn’t like Supernatural when it first started last year but after watching the first season on DVD, I really enjoyed it.  I’m looking forward to seeing it on DVD next summer.

I love Top Chef...how can you not like this show?  It’s so much fun.  Watching the cooks come with something or completly fall apart is the best.

I can understand the backlash over Rachel Ray. She’s way to perky.  I can take her in small batches but at the moment she’s way over exposed.  However, I picked up a copy of her magazine and ended up cooking three recipes out of it and have several more to go.  Great cooking magazine.

Well, this certainly makes me feel better. I can’t handle scary movies. Seriously. The Sixth Sense terrified me. Little dead girl in the tent? *shudder* Forget about something like Saw or Hostile. And people always tell me, “Oh, those movies aren’t scary.” THEY ARE TO ME!!!

Although, I’d have to say, I really enjoyed Friday the 13th (first one). The last surprise (you know what I’m talking about) made me fly off the couch, and I’d probably never watch it again, but it was fun. I also like 28 Days Later, but once more, on the edge of my seat.
