Your hair is the one accessory that you always have with you, so why not make the most of it? And no, braiding it won’t make you look like Orlando Bloom.
The geek ponytail with centre parting is often seen at conventions and sci-fi bookstores. I have never seen a version that was flattering, and I have no idea why it’s so popular. It looks more like an ill-advised tribute to Jay and Silent Bob than an actual hair style. It may be practial, but so is shaving your head. Or are geeks simply too lazy to get their hair cut?
This sad excuse for a hairstyle is a crime against good taste, just like wearing white tube socks with sandals.
Ponytail-loving geeks seem to think of their hair as a necessary evil, something that is best kept tucked away and forgotten on the back of their heads. Or maybe the just forgot about it? The hair looks like it is in need of a good schampoo and a visit to a good hairdresser.
Hair needs to be cut once in a while, otherwise it becomes frizzy and tangled. If your hair is too long it will loose some of that bounce and just lay flat against your head, becoming greasy and not very appealing. Grunge is dead and it should stay that way. Trust me, I lived thru it in the 90s. Let’s not bring back grunge hair.
Dying it black is not gonna make worn out hair look better. You risk looking like a teenage goth who’s seen The Crow one too many times.
Long hair is one of the easiest styles to maintain, as long as you take care of it. To keep your hair healthy you should treat it to regular haircuts and a good conditioner. If your hair is not in good shape you’re gonna look like a slob, rather than a certain charming elf from Lord of the Rings. And let’s face it, most of us are never gonna get away with that Legolas look.
However, nicely styled long hair is perfectly fine - just leave the scrunchy at home.
If you do insist on keeping that ponytail, keep your hair healthy and clean. Try a side parting or risk it all and try a completely different hairstyle.
