Silence.
Okay, so there’s not a lot I can say about the upcoming midseason. As I mentioned before we’re in world of hurt when the onslaught of reality programming due to the writer’s strike. It doesn’t look as though the strike will end any time soon, so there will be a dearth of new scripted programming.
But there are some bright spots on the way. The networks stockpiled scripts of their mid-season replacement shows so there is hope ahead.
The show I’m most excited for you to see is “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” It’s action-packed with a great story, and terrific actors. I love the fact that the women in this one kick-butt in a major way. It premieres Sunday, Jan. 13 and Monday, Jan. 14, on Fox. The pilot was solid and I can’t wait to see where they go with this one. Lena Headey, Summer Glau and Thomas Dekker star.
I also liked “Breaking Bad,” which premieres Sunday, Jan. 20, on AMC. Bryan Cranston plays a high school chemistry teacher, who finds out he is dying and opens a rolling meth lab. I know it doesn’t sound funny, but it is. It’s an exercise in what happens when we make the wrong choices in life and how those can often spiral out of control.
I haven’t seen “Eli Stone” (ABC, Jan. 31) yet, but its from Greg Berlanti (“Brothers and Sisters,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Everwood”) so I have high hopes. It’s about a lawyer who finds himself at a crossroads between the man he has become and the man he wants to be, even if that means being a prophet. Eli (Johnny Lee Miller) has crazy hallucinations, and realizes that maybe it’s time to change his life. Victor Garber and Natasha Henstridge also star.
“Cashmere Mafia” (ABC, Jan. 9) offers more than you might think. It follows the tight friendships of four women who work together to help each other with their problems. While there’s great fashion, beautiful women and men, and some very sexy scenes, there’s also good stories behind this one. If you ever wondered what happened to those girls from “Sex and the City,” they grew up and became the “Cashmere Mafia.”
