“Women’s Murder Club” debuts Friday night on ABC. It’s one of the last pilots I watched. I figured it for the procedural cop show kind of thing, and I’m so done with that. But I was wrong. (It happens every once in a while.) While there’s definitely a mystery involved, it’s more about the relationships between the women on the series.
The crimes are grisly and Det. Lindsay Boxer (Angie Harmon), Medical Examiner Claire Washburn (Paula Newsome), Asst. D.A. Jill Bernhardt (Laura Harris) and crime reporter Cindy Thomas (Aubrey Dollar) work together to solve the cases. They have their own secret club, where they hash out details and brainstorm.
What keeps this from being a crime of the week is the stories take viewers into the lives of each of the women, to see the personal side. The show is based on the series of books by James Patterson, and he’s a man who knows women.
“I was raised in a house full of women,” says the writer. “I have a great respect for them, and I know how intelligent and clever they are. I like the fact that these women bring something to the table, and together they can solve what the men can’t.”
Friday nights used to be death on network television but with shows like this, and “Moonlight” and “Friday Night Lights,” that may soon change.

Good to hear this doesn’t suck. I looks horrible.
