I know what you’re thinking, “My God, Chick do you have a life?” The answer is yes, and that’s why I have two DVRs. I’ll watch the first two episodes of each show and then I’ll whittle them down to a special few. That’s my way of telling you that maybe you want to give them a chance too. Most of the NBC pilots can be seen on their site, and a couple of the networks will make their new shows available on iTunes the day after broadcast.
I’ve been asked several times to pick an absolute favorite new show for the season, but I can’t. It would probably be a tie between “Bionic Woman” and “Pushing Daisies.” I know “BW” has gone through several changes behind the scenes and I haven’t seen beyond the first episode, but I really like the show.
So what about all those returning shows including “Heroes” and “House?” I’ll begin with “House.” Even though I’m a Hugh Laurie freak, I see “House” more in syndication than I do in first run. That may change this season. The first episode is about how he works without a team and it has a wicked, freaky twist at the end. In the second episode he has a room full of hopefuls who want to work with him, and he does crazy things to whittle down that number to a chosen few. Funny, and at the same time the case they are trying to solve is fascinating. I like the new blood, and this one may have a regular place on the DVR this season.
What the heck can I say about “Heroes?” It’s friggin’ awesome. I did a set visit this summer and was able to tour the Bennett’s new California digs. I wish I had that house. It’s even nicer than the one they had in West Texas. I also visited an Irish pub, which will be a part of story, as will the artists’ loft.
The first episode is two-parter that begins four months after the big bang. I really don’t want to give too much away, but you do discover what happens to Peter, Nathan and Matt after the showdown with Sylar. There’s a new sinister force stalking the heroes. We saw a hint of this in the last couple of shows, but we learn more in the first three episodes.
H.R.G and Claire are trying to start over in California, but it isn’t easy for Claire to keep her talents a secret at he new school. H.R.G has a new business, but there’s more going on there than you think. Hiro has landed in feudal Japan where he meets his hero Takezo Kensei (David Anders). Hiro makes a few mistakes and he’s a bit disappointed in the man he’s admired all these years.
Two new characters, twins Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro Herrera (Shalim Ortiz) are trying to get some help with their deadly powers as they cross from Mexico into the U.S. Their abilities are a big threat to everyone around them. Suresh has a new job and he has to track down the Haitian. And another lost Hero falls in with a gang of Irish gangsters.
And that’s all I’m telling you. I wills say that NBC’s Monday lineup of “Chuck,” “Heroes” and “Journeyman” is a must-see. And give “Journeyman” more than one episode before you make up your mind. I have to go now. So much TV, so little time.
I really enjoyed Chuck. It’s a solid lead in to Heroes...but what’s up in the blond girls teeth?
