It’s a weird summer in the world of television, not necessarily in a bad way. There’s a little something for everyone, and even a few treasures in the mix. I’m here to give you a quick run down on a few of the ones I’ve seen so far:

Army Wives:One of my favorite dramas of the season is “Army Wives.” It follows the lives of the women and men left behind when their loved ones go off to war. It’s a great mix of drama and humor, and stars Kim Delaney, Catherine Bell, Sterling K. Brown, Wendy Davis, Sally Pressman and Drew Fuller. They sent three episodes and I wanted to see more. And just because it’s on Lifetime doesn’t mean it’s just for chicks, my husband liked this one just as much as I did. (Lifetime, Sundays)

Mad Men: This highly stylized drama stars Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones and Vincent Kartheiser. Its set in the 1960s in a Madison Avenue advertising agency. These guys were wicked back in the day. This is slick and definitely deserves your attention. Think “Sopranos” but with good-looking ad execs. (Smile) (July, AMC)

Tyler Perry’s House of Payne:I was expecting one funny show from Tyler Perry, but I was disappointed in this one. It tried to be “All in the Family,” unfortunately without the funny parts. (TBS, Wednesdays)

Burn Notice: Sharon Gless, Jeffrey Donovan, Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar star in this drama about a spy who gets fired. Interesting stuff here, and I love me a good spy drama. (June 28, USA)

John From Cincinnati:Scribe David Milch has gone from the old West with his show “Deadwood” to the world of surfers in this new drama for HBO. This is a mysterious, quirky and slightly bizarre series that can be harsh at times. Would we expect anything less from Milch? (HBO, Sundays)

Heartland:Treat Williams heads up this drama about a stubborn surgeon who is one of the best in his field of organ transplants. I’m kind of done with hospital dramas, but this is a good one. It also stars Kari Matchett, Rockmond Dunbar and Dabney Coleman. (TNT, June 18)

Creature Comforts:This series which premieres tonight on CBS is inspired by the British shorts from Aardman Animation. The same guys who did “Wallace & Gromit.” It’s cute and cleverer than you might think at first glance.

Lil’ Bush:Voiced by Chris Parson, Donick Cary and Iggy Pop, this animated series focuses on an adolescent George W. Bush and his friends. I like the concept. The first couple are funny, but the thrills don’t last for long. (June 13, Comedy Central)
