“The idea was that they are a really young, sexy, fun, clever team who every single week risked their lives trying to save the world and in that kind of – it’s like a pressure cooker environment,” says executive producer Julie Gardner.
Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) is the newest member of the team. A police officer, she first notices the strange group called Torchwood at a crime scene. Owen Harper (Bum Gorman) is a scientist and a medic. He doesn’t have a lot of respect for the rules, but he’s good at his job. Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori) is a computer genius, who arranges data so that people disappear off the face of the planet without questions. Ianto Jones (Gareth David Lloyd) is the guy who makes sure everyone is taken care of, but there’s more to him than meets the eye.
“Torchwood” is much sexier than “Dr. Who.” This is evident in episode two where an alien feeds off of sexual power. There’s also a lot of sexual tension among the members of the group. “There’s aliens, but what’s most interesting is the relationships between these people,” says Barrowman. “There’s definitely something going on.”
The special effects can be a little hokey, and the aliens slightly rubbery looking at times, but it’s a fun show. “Dr. Who” fans won’t be disappointed. Barrowman’s right. It isn’t so much about the aliens, as it is the people who hunt them. These are affable characters, with great charisma. Give it a couple of episodes.

I haven’t heard good things about this. I’m glad to hear something good about it. I’ll have to check it out.
I’ve just finished watching series 1 of Torchwood, don’t judge the series by the first episodes alone. It doesn’t really get moving until about 5 episodes in, then it gets pretty damn good!
Episdoe five?!? A good show should hook the audience from the first or second episode, or the window of interest gets shut!
