So back to “Sons”… this is a reality show starring Randy Spelling, son of the late Aaron Spelling, Sean Stewart, Rod Stewart’s son, and David Weintraub who basically comes from a family of rich Beverly Hills doctors. The three guys grew up together in Beverly Hills and moved into a house for the summer. The series follows them as they each try to make their way in the world and at the same time partying until they can’t see straight.
But here’s the thing… It’s dull, dull, dull. In order for these to be fun or at the very least a guilty pleasure you need characters to care about or hate. Maybe it’s just me, but these guys just have no appeal at all. Zip. Zero. Nada.
Seriously, give me “Girl’s Next Door,” a show that as a woman I should hate, but I’m captivated. These chicks are hanging out with rich old Hugh, and they are fascinating. What is it that would make a woman subject herself to that kind of life? Enquiring minds want to know.
I’m even a sucker for the “Pussycat Dolls.” It’s a deplorable show, but there are girls on there that are so easy to adore, and some of them can even sing. And maybe Lil Kim’s right about their being a Pussycat Doll in all of us. I have many more guilty pleasures like “MTV Cribs” and “Pimp My Ride,” but I can’t tell you any more or I’ll lose all credibility as a television critic.
But you must believe me that “Sons” is one humungous waste of airtime. I know you’re curious, but please save yourself the trouble. Read a book instead. OK, I’m done with my rant.
Those of you in love with “The Shield” it’s back on Tuesday. This show has always been a little raw for me, but I’m a big fan of Michael Chiklis. He happens to be one of my favorite people to interview. Vic (Chiklis) is in big trouble this season, and this one starts out with a bang. It’s also the last season of the show, so enjoy it while you can.
