Most podcast episodes run over an hour. Some, well over two (Dafixer, I’m looking at you), but to be fair, you wouldn’t make a podcast if you didn’t REALLY love it and it shows in the fun podcasters have.
Let’s try this: rather than trying to sit through three hours of audio from a bunch of guys sounding slightly more cohesive than the Miami Seven plot only to quit iTunes and watch another episode of Clean House instead (I love me some Niecy Nash), I attempt to hear only the first thirty minutes and get through more episodes. The podcast list so far sits at 45 shows, most of which are weekly, and some more than that.
Let’s get to getting after the jump.
6/11, 6/17 Comic Book Noise‘s Derek Coward decides to boycott DC Comics’ Final Crisis. Sooo glad I didn’t read Countdown. If nobody reads a crappy comic book, is it homophobic? Indy episode gets right into it. Nice plug for Jeff Zwirek and his works. Chats more with Angela of Comic Addiction fame about comic book movies. Uh oh, sports… eyes glazing over! Turns out that Angela is a comic booker reader procrastinator.
6/11 Comic Book Page steps through other people’s picks for June 2008 Previews catalog with a corresponding DCBS discount. Offers advice to LCS since they are such experts and supporters.
6/11, 6/16 Comic Book Queers, remember when Dick York was replaced by Dick Sargent on Bewitched and everyone pretended that nothing happened, but secretly York was knocked off? Where the eff is Steve!? Also, Brett read the Lost bible that was leaked on the net. Comics finally mentioned 16 minutes in. Congrats to Brett and his big gay wedding! Everybody loves a happy ending, even Steve’s clone.
6/11 Comic Addiction promised himself he wouldn’t cry! Talks about comics 26 minutes in. Review of Action Comics #866.
6/12 About Heroes realize they don’t know where each other actually live. Talks about comics 18 minutes in. Dixon off of DC. Wants to reread all of Manhunter after this latest issue. Lukewarm toward Trinity.
6/12 Comic Book Savant‘s F Bomb Podcast talks a big game, but I only heard six F bombs. Talks about comics 20 minutes in. Probably the only podcast right now not hating on Morrison (or as the CBQ’s say G’Mo).
6/12 11 O’Clock Comics talks about comics immediately. Recaps their experience at MoCCA. Talks up Josh Cotter’s Skyscrapers which sounds heartbreaking. I think they’re doing a book club thing for Seven Soldiers, but not sure, this is what I get for not paying attention.
6/13 Webcomics Weekly had re-record their podcast about the Orphan Works Act after talking to some lawyers and realize it’s even scarier than they thought.
6/14 2 in 1 Showcase gets all wikipedia-like about Valiant Comics, its downfall, acquisition, advantages and future. Great history lesson for those not in the know. citation needed
6/14 Sidebar interviews with Amy Reeder, the artist for Madame Xanadu. It’s all going well, but then they loose street cred when Amy finds out they never read Blue Monday.
6/15 Birds of Geek‘s Amy fields the first UK comic book podcast panel at the 2008 Bristol International Comic Expo. Turns out making a podcast is tough stuff. It’s their first panel because UK just got internet access.

I didn’t say boycott DC Comics. I said I’M boycotting DC Comics.
With Indie Comic Book Noise, I make sure to put the Small Press Review up front because I know that Angie and I have a tendency to go off track every now and then.

That’s an important distinction. I’ll definitely edit that. But after hearing you talk about what happened in Countdown, I’m surprised more blogs weren’t talking about it.
I do like the “radio” chemistry you two have. Not all of the shows can pull off conversational timing the way you 2 do.

Actually I said I’M boycotting Final Crisis because I just gave them a bunch of money for a yearlong story that didn’t count for anything a week after it was finished. I should listen to what I say next time.

I think that most people gave up on Countdown before the halfway mark. I know that my comics dealer wasn’t even carrying more than a couple of copies by the end.
I am also a little surprised, but I guess comic fans only get up in arms over continuity errors when they happen in a book people actually read and like.
We have been told that Angie brings out the teddybear-ness in me. She’s the best co-host I could have hoped for.

Countdown was such a waste of paper. Just think of how much damage DC did to the environment to create that crap.

No, we’re not doing an 11 O’Clock Comics book club thing for Seven Soldiers. It just seems that every week one of us talks about something someone else brought up the week prior.

Hey, what sort of citation do you need for the 2 in 1 Showcase episode? We’d be happy to provide. Thanks for including us—we’re both big Valiant fans, so it was fun to sort of sort through that publisher’s history.

You have reminded me here that I should be listening to About Heroes. Should and shall!
