In the wake of the recent Indian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Dean, and alarm over global warming, the award-winning creators of The Lone and Level Sands return to plumb the depths of the world’s great flood myths with the four-issue, all-ages mini-series Some New King of Slaughter, or Lost in the Flood (And How We Found Home Again): Diluvian Tales from Around the World.
And the curious can get an understanding of the reasons for and the process of creating such a book at the creators’ Production Blog for Slaughter.
“Living on opposite coasts,” explains Lewis, “Marv and I do a lot of our work virtually. And leaving us a written log of this project gives our thought processes as we analyzed various myths and true events that is exciting even for us to go back and read. Posting it for all to see seemed a cool way to involve readers early on, get them talking about the universal importance of ecological disasters and the human responses to it.”
“Some of our colleagues in the industry chimed in,” said Marvin Mann, the artist behind Slaughter, “and the feedback has been fantastic. They encouraged us to get Dave’s and my thoughts in a more open forum.”
Some New King of Slaughter will be available in December. The Lone and Level Sands and mpMann’s other ASP title, Inanna’s Tears (with writer Rob Vollmar) are currently available in finer comic shops everywhere.
