Marvel’s weak week
This week’s Free Comic Book Day generally equals strong sales for retailers. Their efforts to reach out to the public by way of coinciding comic writers and artists signings brings in larger numbers than usual. The only other time local comic shops get that kind of retail love is during the holiday season.
However, both Ultimates 3 and Astonishing X-Men are late… again. Initially, there were delayed for whatever reason and rescheduled to hit shelves today. That would have meant Marvel’s two biggest selling titles available to a larger than average audience. Perhaps they wanted the Secret Invasion #1 second printing to get a fair shake, but let’s face it; the Bendis blockbuster doesn’t stack up to the other two titles in terms of readership.
Not to mention the fact that Iron Man hits theaters this Friday. Where is Iron Man #1? People are going to see the movie and want to go to their local comic shops and pick up related items like comic books and action figures.
BTW, DC Universe Zero is out on time for fifty cents.
