It’s that magic day of the week. The one Barry, our intrepid store manager calls “What’r you looking at!?”
But everyone else around town is calling it Day One. Not because of our new President Obama (that has a nice ring to it doesn’t it) but because we’re all in Dallas and that other guy is here. Perfect day for some Dark Avengers!
Read Barry’s weekly picks after the jump.
DARK AVENGERS #1
One of these heroes is not like the other heroes, one of these heroes just doesn’t belong… Actually, on closer inspection, it’s more than likely none of these heroes belong, and they’re certainly not who you’d expect to see under various familiar costumes. The post-Secret Invasion Marvel Universe is a strange one indeed, and this new series is the pinnacle of the disturbing new status quo. A sort of twist on the original Thunderbolts concept, this new Bendis-written series is sure to set the stage for all sorts of nasty shenanigans as a new breed of Avengers take on the world. Snazzy pencils supplied by the able-bodied Mike Deodato Jr.
BIRDS OF PREY #126
The Birds of Prey are no more! After setting up shop in Platinum Flats, Oracle has decided to call the whole thing off, and the Birds find themselves disbanded and broken. Without the former Batgirl, where will Huntress, Misfit, Lady Blackhawk and the recently inducted Infinity find themselves next? What? The last issue isn’t until next month? Small comfort, that.
TINY TITANS #12
No one will contest the sheer cuteness of this series nor its quirky sense of humor that plays well to adults and kids alike. However, we surely can’t be the only ones who find it somewhat cringeworthy that Deathstroke and Trigon make regular appearances, what with their utter lack of good parenting skills in the regular DC Universe. And don’t even get us started on Doctor Light. Still, having said all that (or if you really have no idea what we’re on about with these characters), you can’t beat this book for a good laugh. After all, it’s not like the regular DC books are a barrel of smiles lately.
UNCANNY X-MEN ANNUAL 2009
Oh, Emma Frost. You’ve played both sides of the fence over your long and storied history, and now you find yourself on the precipice of your greatest challenge yet as a secret member of Norman Osborn’s Illuminati. But what secrets still lie beyond those piercing blue eyes and that flowing, more-than-likely-not-naturally platinum hair? Matt Fraction and Mitch Breitweiser have the skinny on you, lady, so you’d better watch your back.
