Gizmodo tells us of a marketing gimmick for the Super Bad dvd that has Wal-Mart pulling the item off the shelves. Seems that the unrated version comes with a fake ID with the name McLovin. What are scared of, that kids will use the ID to buy Wal-Mart guns?

Superbad DVD Pulled from Wal-mart [Extreme Controversy]:

This may be the first time Gizmodo has reported on a DVD controversy that didn't involve the words "HD" or "Blu." Apparently the special edition of Superbad has been pulled off of Wal-mart shelves in Hawaii because of its inclusion of a novelty fake ID. Remember the movie? It belongs to a certain someone named "McLovin."

Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann was none too happy about the ID, even though the card's photo is really a hologram alternating between "Fogell" to "McLovin" (to be fair, I'm of age and I'd love to carry that bad boy in my wallet). So Wal-mart pulled the film from its 7 Hawaii locations. And then sub-21-year-olds turned back to their ways of purchasing good fake IDs and, in some cases, bypassing the temptations of alcohol altogether for abstinence and whippets. THE EVIL DEAD ULTIMATE EDITION GETS THE “ANCHOR BAY COLLECTION” TREATMENT WITH 3-DISC DVD SET

Sam Raimi’s legendary horror classic rises December 18th with reconstructed and restored scenes for the first time ever
BURBANK, CA – Just when you thought you’d seen it all in The Evil Dead, Anchor Bay Entertainment will commemorate the film’s 25th anniversary with the all-new, three-disc The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition on December 18th, just in time for the holidays, making it the “ultimate” stocking-stuffer for the horror fans in your life. SRP is $34.97 and pre-book is November 15th. The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition will be released under the prestigious “Anchor Bay Collection” brand, which has previously released comprehensive DVD editions of such horror classics as Re-Animator, Phantasm and Hellraiser.

Over the years, Anchor Bay Entertainment has released numerous special editions of The Evil Dead, each one more dynamic and diabolical than the one that preceded it, in an effort to continually satiate and satisfy the ravenous hunger of the film’s worldwide legion of fans. The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition tops—and buries—them all! Celebrate the original Sam Raimi masterpiece with two versions of the movie (for years, fans have demanded the release of the original full-frame version), six new featurettes that revisit the film’s cast, crew, biggest fans and enduring legacy, plus never-before-seen production footage, outtakes and deleted scenes, reconstructed and restored specifically for this edition! That’s enough to fill several Necronomicons!

Upon its release in 1982, The Evil Dead was immediately hailed as a new horror classic. Best-selling author Stephen King called the film “the most ferociously original horror film of the year.” In the ensuing quarter of a century, The Evil Dead is one of the most influential, landmark horror films of all time.

The film launched the careers of writer/director Sam Raimi (the Spider-Man trilogy, Darkman, The Quick and the Dead), producer Robert Tapert (“Xena: Warrior Princess,” The Grudge, the Spider-Man trilogy) and executive producer/leading man Bruce Campbell (Bubba Ho-Tep, Sky High, Man With the Screaming Brain).

Five college friends, including Ash (Campbell) drive to a remote cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun. Little do they realize that their fun will soon turn to fear, as an unstoppable supernatural force has been unleashed and surrounds the woods around them. One by one, they fall victim to the demonic forces at large, resurrected as murderous demons which can only be destroyed by dismemberment. Easier said than done. Soon, only Ash is left to combat the evil before it consumes the world. It’ll be a fight to the death … and to the undeath.

The film’s mammoth success has thus far inspired two equally popular sequels, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness, as well as a series of popular video games with rumors of an upcoming remake produced by Raimi and Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures.

The Evil Dead also stars Ellen Sandweiss (Satan’s Playground, Brutal Massacre: A Comedy, the upcoming The Dread), Betsy Baker (the upcoming Witches’ Night) and Sarah York (the upcoming Brutal Massacre: A Comedy).

This holiday season, Anchor Bay knows who’s been naughty and who’s been nice

… and who’s going to end up on ice!

In the autumn of 1984, a low-budget horror thriller was released that ignited a firestorm of international controversy. The film was Silent Night, Deadly Night, and for more than a generation, it has remained one of the most hotly debated films in the horror genre.

On December 11th, Anchor Bay Entertainment, the industry leader in horror home entertainment, will re-release this unforgettable horror classic, decked out with all-new holiday-themed cover art that truly spreads good cheer…with a few screams! SRP is $14.98, with pre-book on November 8th.

Even before Silent Night, Deadly Night was officially released, protestors lined up to loudly decry a movie portraying Santa Claus as a deranged, axe-wielding killer. The unexpected furor so caught the original distributor off-guard that it hastily yanked the film from theaters, virtually guaranteeing a fast death at the box office. Years later, when the controversy died down and the film was released to the home video market, Silent Night, Deadly Night became the cult classic it is today, having spawned no less than four sequels, with a remake currently in development.

Years ago, little Billy saw his parents murdered by an escaped killer wearing a Santa Claus costume. The experience left indelible scars on his psyche, made all the worse by his subsequent years languishing in an orphanage, where his life was made a living hell by the cruel and domineering Mother Superior (Lilyan Chauvin, Universal Soldier).

With the help of the sympathetic Sister Margaret (Gilmer McCormick, Slaughterhouse-Five, Starting Over), the 18-year-old Billy (Robert Brian Wilson, “Search for Tomorrow”) secures a job at a toy store. But when the store’s regular Santa is injured, Billy is called upon to don the red suit. But as he does, he becomes a ticking time bomb. The traumatic memories of his parents’ murders, combined with the abuse he has suffered at the hands of the Mother Superior, propel him into a state of psychotic rage. Santa Claus is coming to town, and he’s got murder on his mind…

The film also features a notable appearance by legendary “scream queen” Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers). Silent Night, Deadly Night was directed by Emmy Award nominee Charles E. Sellier Jr. (producer of Breaking the Da Vinci Code, “Encounters With the Unexplained” and the cult classics Hangar 18 and The Boogens).

TV Guide Presents CHARLES IN CHARGE: SEASON 2 - Synopsis

Charles, a college student, moves in with the Powell family as the housekeeper, baby-sitter, and friend to the children. Along with his best friend, Buddy, Charles attempts to manage his life-- especially college and girls, as well as tend to the family.

When “Charles in Charge” returned as a first-run syndicated series in early 1987, only Charles and Buddy were left from the original cast. The Pembrokes had moved to Seattle and sold their house to the Powells, who became Charles’ new employers. The man of the house was Mr. Powell’s cranky father Walter, a retired career Navy man. Also in the house were Walter’s daughter-in-law Ellen, and his three grandchildren, Jamie (14), Sarah (13), and Adam (12).

That season Charles’ loving mother, Lillian, came from Scranton for a short visit. She bought his favorite hangout, Sid’s Pizza Parlor, and took up permanent residence in New Brunswick. Not only did he have to deal with her good-natured meddling, but picking up girls at Sid’s, when she was there, was not what it used to be.
