any fans of straight-to-video, C-list, horror cheese?

Gotta love no-budget horror movies, anyone have any favorites?

here are my top five:

1.) Puppet Master - the 80’s original, and a few of the sequels. Fun, sometimes genuinely scary Full Moon film about murderous dolls.

2.) Demonic Toys - again, with the murderous dolls.

3.) Re-Animator series - not sure if the original had a theatrical release, it was on DVD when I saw it :)

4.) Pinocchio’s Revenge - creepy Chucky rip-off of the mid-90’s. Scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. (again, may have had a theatrical release I’m not aware of)

5.) Evil Bong - Just what it sounds like. Starring Tommy Chong. Watch out for the sequel - Evil Bong 2: King Bong

Day watch

I bought Day Watch the other day, which is a big deal for me because as a college student I try not to spend money I don’t have… however, I kid you not, I’ve lived up to every cliche and lived off of Ramen for the past week so that I’d have enough “grocery money” to buy Day watch. I was able to see it over the summer at an indie movie theater we have in my hometown, but watching it again, it’s even better the 2nd time!!! I admit it’s a little confusing the first time you see it, but I seriously recommend a) seeing this movie in the first place and b) if you have, give it another chance and regardless of whether you liked it the first time or you didn’t, you’ll like it so much more. my one complaint about the DVD is that the special features are kinda lackluster because I was kinda hoping they’d do what they did with Night Watch and have the DVD be two sided with the American cut on one side and the international cut on the other but, eh such is life.

Boy was Stefan right on the review on this one. Not only was Murphy back to his “let’s play mulitple characters” schtick, but he moved on to something completely original: having a well-known black comedian play a fat female character.

Eddie Murphy, welcome to the year 2000, population you.

People can rejoice as the bitter next generation format wars are over. Well maybe the 1 million people that adopted HD DVD won’t rejoice but they’re just bitter losers. I am glad that HD went down in flames and Blu-ray is the winner. It’s the superior format.

Paris, je t’aime

To all those that have ready access to smaller, art-house films, which I’m sure independent stores will carry this, or possibly even Blockbuster thanks to the all-star cast, the movie “Paris, je t’aime” just came out on DVD today (in the US at least) and I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a collection of 18 short films by a variety of widely talented directors al about the city of Paris. It’s seriously got a little something for everyone whether you’re a romantic or even a horror fan. However, I will admit, seeing as it is a collection of 18 films, some are rather lackluster but honestly the Coen brothers short film starring Steve Buscemi is not only worth the time but the money spent. I seriously recommend this film.

For those who are fans of the indie films, you might wanna check out a new movie called Nearing Grace. I was given a copy of the movie by my friend that interns at umgd. I was actually quite surprised at the originality of the story. It is not a “girly” movie which was what my first reaction was...I highly recommend it. Check it out and let me know what you think afterwards! Nearing Grace
