I’ve personally never watched much in the way of Kung-Fu films, but last night I watched… Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky. I absolutely loved it. Could you guys recommend any more films of it’s caliber?

ahhh yesss.. Riki-Oh is a great movie with lots of fun to be had.. You had to love Ricky’s musical stylings on the grass flute.. Are you looking for more schlocky gore-fu or just really good Kung-fu movies? Ricky is kind of in it’s own league in terms of the splatter..

Schlocky Gore-Fu sounds just peachy.

gimme some time on this one. I gotta face the commute home from work right now, but I’ll be back in the a.m after doing some thinking about this.. I’ll say this though: I don’t think there’s much of a sub-genre to speak of when it comes to gore-fu, but we’ll see what I can come up with..

You can do it!

Also, if anybody wants to see Riki-Oh, you can watch the entire movie here.

okay, here goes, Riki-Oh is pretty much the lone ranger as far as really schlocky “gore-fu” movies go, but I have a few suggestions that may be up your alley(if you haven’t already seen them)

Tsui Hark’s We’re going to eat you. It’s an old school kung fu movie with a fair bit of splatter. Tsui Hark is one of the more celebrated Chinese directors out there, and this was his 2nd movie, so it’s a little rough around the edges. Here’s a link to the trailer:
we’re going to eat you
If interested, Tokyo Shock put out a R1 disc and Mei Ah has a region free disc floating around.

beyond that, a few titles somewhat in line with what you’re looking for are Sonny Chiba’s masterpiece The Street Fighter.Although you’ve probably seen it, if you haven’t, It’s a pretty sleazy, violent M.A movie which is highly enjoyable and the Street Fighter box set can be picked up on the cheap at Wal-Mart etc. Here’s the trailer:

Chiba Goodness

beyond that there’s a boat load of Japanese stuff that deviates more from what you’re looking for, but is still pretty good/fun(Versus, Wild Zero, Battle Royal(I’d be shocked if you hadn’t watched it), and tons more)

hope that was somewhat helpful. I’ve got the word out on the street with a few other people, so if anymore come up, I’ll post them here for you..

Awesome, thanks Willy! The first movie you mentioned looks pretty cool, I’ll make sure to look into it. As for Street Fighter, I think I know the one you’re talking about. I really want to see Battle Royale, but it’s one of those films you have to be in the mood for, ya’ know? I don’t know a whole lot about Versus and Wild Zero, but I’ll look those up as well.

To be honest, I seriously need to see more foreign films. I could probably count the ones I’ve seen on one, maybe two hands, and most of them had a release in America, so that’s not saying a whole lot. Anyway, thanks for the help!

get a region free DVD player. That’s my advice; so many GREAT movies have sub-par if any R1 releases, so they’re definitely worth getting. You can pick one up at Wal-Mart for under $30. B.R is in my top 10 all time favorite movies.. Kinji Fukasaku of Tora! Tora! Tora! fame did it.

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea. I usually just watch movies on my computer, but it has trouble with some movies.
