People can rejoice as the bitter next generation format wars are over.  Well maybe the 1 million people that adopted HD DVD won’t rejoice but they’re just bitter losers.  I am glad that HD went down in flames and Blu-ray is the winner.  It’s the superior format.

I don’t understand.  Do the HDDVD players not work anymore?  Are the rapidly dropping prices on all HDDVDs (of films that won’t be released for some time on Blu-Ray) no longer beautiful to look at?

It seems like now is the time, more than ever, to snap up a bunch of these defunct players and their discs while everyone is more than happy to part with them for a pittance.  It’s still a high quality format and there are still films worth owning from the HDDVD catalogue.  And no, I don’t have an HDDVD player.  I’m happy with my standard DVDs for the time being.

That said, I’m glad the war is over.  Now Blu-Ray just has to compete against standard def DVDs and the oncoming threat of the digital download.

I’m all for the digital download.  Honestly, how often do you watch the bonus features more than once these days?  Just give me the movie with a good picture and soundtrack and I’m pretty happy.

I totally agree, as long as the commentary track and the documentary somehow remain a factor.  I’m a sucker for that stuff.
