Erin and I just watched After The Thin Man last night. I love Nick, Nora and Asta at this point, but fear that the addition of a baby into the series might seriously cut down on their casual boozing and late night crime solving. We’re going to watch the next movie tonight, so I guess I’ll know soon enough.
I watched Lake of Fire over the course of two nights. For those of you that don’t know, that’s the abortion documentary. It’s a two and a half hour long film, shot completely in black & white and it is, as you might have guessed, pretty harrowing. I loved it, but it’s not a film that I’d recommend. Despite being remarkably even handed in its approach to the subject, it’s still incredibly graphic and that might be upsetting to a lot of people. In particular, the last half hour of the film follows a woman through virtually every step of the abortion process and stays with her as she considers the aftermath of her decision. If that doesn’t sound like something you’d be interested in seeing, then definitely don’t (I’m pro-choice and it upset the hell out of me). If you think you can handle it, then you’re in for an amazing experience. The sub-plot the follows the assassination of abortion doctors across the country is fascinating enough to make this film worth seeing at least once, not to mention the continual back and forth dialogue that takes place between both sides at various rallies. And NOAM CHOMSKY is in it! You can’t beat that.
Currently lined up in the queue…
Hawk: The Slayer
Fade To Black
Buffy: Season 4 (discs 2 & 3)
and Violent City, which is supposedly an Itallian remake of the Jean Pierre Melville film, Le Samourai (which I highly recommend). The film stars Charles Bronson, so I’m fairly excited.
