I just watched this movie and it really impressed me. I may have smurfin up renting the R version, but than again what I saw made me twitchy so who knows. I didn’t know there was an Unrated. Beatrice Dalle made me very, very twitchy.
So I watched it last night, and it looks like you guys are all safe for the time being. This was one of if not the best horror movie I have seen in years. It was so bleak I almost couldnt handle it. I am pretty sure we will end up featuring this on our show this week even though its been talked about almost everywhere at this point, it deserves the attention.
In short: I loved it, thought it was a great first film, thought the acting from the 2 leads was stellar, thought the atmosphere and effects were suitably nasty(other than the dream sequence with the mouth and the hair spray/can of pam scene), thought it was really well shot and lit. With that being said though, I certainly don’t think it is perfect; there were a few HIGHLY illogical missteps that could have been very easily revised/rewritten to avoid the idiocy of them bringing the film down a notch. I also think it got a little bit over the top near the end with the cop stumbling around and descended into splatter fest a little too much. But with that being said, it is, without question, one of the best Horror films of the past decade. One more interesting thing I found: I found that watching it in a packed theatre left me in a state of disconnect/emotional detachment in a sense; all of the hooting and hollering broke the tension more than I would’ve liked; I’m going to watch it at home as I ordered it from Amazon, and I have it in my possession now, so anything my second viewing brings I’ll be glad to post. I think these 2 filmmakers have a VERY bright future ahead of them though, there is no denying that..
F.Y.I to all of you trying to rent it: (c*ck)Blockbuster is c*ck blocking us again and is only renting an “R” rated version of the film, not the NC-17/unrated version, keep that in mind and go buy it from Amazon or wherever and support the industry. If sales are good, they eventually will not be able to deny filmmakers of this quality from keeping their vision/balls intact when making a film. Money talks. In the words of our fearless leaders I’m giving this one an 8.75 and thumbs waaaaaay up. With that being said, I still think Haute tension is a better film..
The best 13 bucks I’ve spent in a long time. I watched the first half at home and the rest at work. I stayed away from reviews on the net so I didn’t know anything about it except that the girl was pregnant and shit was going to go down. Immediately after the film (and still feeling the chills from that ending) I called up a friend of mine who I knew would be awake at 3am and confessed that I just watched one of the best horror films I’ve ever seen. He’s not too big of a fan of the genre (not many of my friends are) but I could tell he was interested in seeing it. Before I got off the phone I told him that when America decides to remake it,there is no way they are keeping that ending.

IF they even have the cojones to try and pull it off. If they do, it will be the most neutered, sanitized remake ever(and that’s saying something). All of the elements that make this so good need to be intact or else it doesn’t work. They’ll probably get Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role and Sandra f*cking Bullock in the role of “La Femme”...

It will go from scissor-fest to giggle-fest. Sigh.

correctemundo!
Its almost sad to even joke around because it could happen in an instant. Pregnant girl not gonna fly here? Easy. Make it 6 years later with the kid alive. It won’t take place in one night. Instead we will be treated to La Femme sending letters and phone calls to the house for a few months proclaiming that she wants what WAS inside of her. Cue the cops and other family members who classify her as a harmless nut job until finally she shows up at the house for the last 15 minutes. 1 cop dies, but its a quick cutaway… PG-13,but of course.
The awesome movie that is Inside turns into:
A dash of Panic Room + The When A Stranger Calls (Remake)
just rented it from netflix this weekend. And man, this movie blew me away, i was worried that all the hype would leve me cold. But none of it odes this film justice, this was the most brutal and vicious horror film I have seen since high tension. I think the french are now the king of horror.
Loved it. Best horror film I’ve seen since ‘The Descent’. Other than the first thirty minutes being a little too slow for my tastes, its practically a perfect film.
OK, I already vented on the voicemail, but that deserves a follow up. I do NOT see this as the great horror movie that everyone else seems too. It was a gore fest. Plain and simple. High Tension, Them and even The Happening, created more horror and terror in me then Inside did. You don’t have to “show” so much to create real horror.
Don’t get me wrong, it had me going at times and I said “oh shit” a lot! But otherwise I was not thrown by the (SPOILERS!) fact the gal was in the other car. No surprise there. What about the whole “he’s mine now and no one can take him from me”? I want to know her story.
The cop, (like Big Willy mentioned); what was up with that? He had his head zapped, so he was blind or disoriented, but he fixed the power box that he couldn’t do earlier with his sight and senses.
There were times where the show was freaky: like the gal fading into the back room! Very well done! And the murder of the old guy and the cop kneeling in the door? Excellent! The rest was for show.
Anyhow, not a bad film, but far from great, in my eyes.
