Hey Jeff Smith saw Superman Returns and has a review up.  He didn’t like it as much as would have thought.

Not too terribly surprised. The “joke” lines in the previews smack too much of cutesy self-awareness.. the “it’s a bird, it’s a plane!” routine, or perhaps “I heard you flew in last week.” Wink wink, nudge nudge. I hope that isn’t representative of what passes for wit in the script.

Can’t wait. Going to see it tonight! Watched Superman II last night. Can only speak in fragments due to excitement. Help!

You saw it tonight?  Where were you?

I liked it but it has major problems like the craptastic ending and Kate Bosworth sucking.

Damn that ending.

I was at the Popsyndicate-sponsored screening at the NorthPark mall theatre.
7:30 show.

Hmm, yeah, I hated her in that role. She wasn;t believable, and she didn;t have that ‘Lois Lane’ moxie. More whiny.

and the ending…. hmm, yeah, kind of crap.

You must have been on the other side.  I was in theatre nine.

She just didn’t do it for me.  I think it is the fact she looks so young.

Expect a full review on Friday’s show, but I liked it. The big problem is that it didn’t end with a bang. It could have gone out on relatively the same note in 5 minutes instead of 20. The first half of the movie is greatness though.

my thoughts exactly Marc.

It ends on a strange beat.  Everything gets wrapped up and then… it keeps going

Count me in the camp that really liked it even though I could pick it apart to death.  Maybe it’s the nostalgia factor but I enjoyed the way it (inconsistently) tied into the first two films.  Routh did nothing and I don’t think Bosworth was horrible.  She was just there.  We could have had a Katie Holmes-type performance and instead got a mediocre one.  Routh was able to pull off Clark but his Superman was kind of blank and barely interacted with any actor better than he was (where was the real Luthor/Supes showdown?)

I think if Parker Posey and Kate Bosworth would have switched roles, it would have been a better movie.

Lois Lane had the “Head of Steel!” 8 hits and not a single cut or bruise. Too bad her character wasn’t that tough and aggressive like Lois Lane should be. 1st 15 minutes and last 20 minutes were boring. Jet scene was fun.
