Cinema Diabolica has a thread going right now discussing the top 10 horror films of the decade thus far.  I brought up Bug in my list and Barbarellacult mentioned that he was surprised that no one else seemed to like the film.  I’m surprised too.  I thought this was an awesome little movie about the notion of memes and post traumatic stress syndrome and I’m not quite sure why horror fans who claim to want intelligent and original films gave this one such a tepid response.  Maybe the title threw people off, but I think that now, with expectations as low as they are, that this is only bound to exceed expectations and become a minor classic of the genre.

I’ve got other films that I think weren’t given a fair shot the first time out, but for now, what films do you guys think haven’t been given the love that they deserve?

For some ungodly reason, I can’t think of a single movie.

Hmm…

Well, there is Dark City, which seems to have been grossly overshadowed by The Matrix.

I said it on Cinema Diabolica’s forum and I’ll say it here: Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.  Dolls would be another one for me.  It was my first “killer doll” movie.  It’s not a great horror movie, but I do think it should get mentioned.  Another one mentioned on CD’s forum was Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows.

Barbarellacult is a she =P

Oops.  Sorry about the gender confusion there.  It happens more often than I’d like to admit…

Ahem.

Anyway, Dolls is great!  Beef and I saw it a while ago at the New Beverly Cinema here in LA as part of a double feature with Charles Band’s Crash.  Stuart Gordon was there with his wife (who plays the step-mom in the movie) and I think I asked him about the From Beyond DVD and if it was ever coming out.

Anyway, I love Dolls.  It’s a borderline kids movie, but the atmosphere is great.  There’s something about those old Epic/Full Moon movies that really bring me back to what it felt like when I was a kid, renting stuff that I knew I shouldn’t be seeing.

People Under The Stairs gets my vote.  There is not one single thing about this movie that I don’t love.  Yet when people talk Craven, it’s Nightmare, Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left.  So very, very sad.

I really want to see that, actually.

It’s one of those that I saw in theaters on a whim and it just connected with me.

People Under the Stairs would get my vote defiantly.  The woman in that movie is really really creepy.  I know when I was a kid and saw it I was disappointed, but now I love it.  Watch it for the crazy couple.
