I’ve been following this a little and am for the time being just going to lump this in with Diary of the Dead and Mother of Tears. Romero didn’t JUST make zombie films, Argento didn’t JUST make ghost stories and Ruggero… well.. we love Ruggero.
Another director pigeonholed into his most famous work. Eli Roth has something to do with this… I know it.
I AM however very curious to see what the ol boy has left in him.

re:Rothstein:most likely
re:Deodato: Me too, but how can you move C.H to the city/Urban area and have it work? Nonetheless it is exciting to see he’d doing SOMETHING genre related.
Say what you will about this project, but I really like the logo.
Oh, I love the logo/poster. I’m just not sure how an urban setting is going to serve Deodato well in this day and age.. the law of diminishing(creative) returns has bit almost all of the greats(Argento, Romero, etc.) I(personally) wouldn’t call Deodato a “great”’ he’s more like Tobe Hooper, with one iconic title and some other decent stuff to his name.. I do *hope* that this knocks our socks off..

I agree....Deodato is known for one film, other than that, I think he is a overrated director. Tobe Hooper is a great comparison.
I don’t like the fact it hypes up being out of the jungle and into the cities. The settings helped with the themes and atmosphere of CH. The poster is good, but I think this might be a bad idea.
Still, I sat and watched the whole of The Washing Machine and this can’t be any clumsier or daft - can it?
Is that a legit poster? If I had a dollar for every time it was announced the Cannibal Holcaust sequel would be beginning production soon… well I could go out and buy me a nice lunch. I had been waiting since I first heard Deodato talking about it when I bought the Jungle Holocaust DVD back in 2002. Eventually I just stopped caring. I’ll believe it when I’ve actually sat down and watched it in full. And after Mother of Tears and Diary of the Dead, my hope of a genre great making an impressive comeback is dwindling…
You know, this thread has turned into something that reminds me of a little piece I read from The AV Club. There’s a little section in a review of 30 Days Of Night that neatly summed up my feelings about horror films....
From the looks of this discussion I am not alone in this thinking.
The comments about Cannibal Apocalpyse in the current podcast have reminded me that the -idea of this film can work - I like that film - by spinning off into pseudo-romero rather than pseudo-documentry.
Still not sure about this idea, but then I did like Mother of Tears and I did notice a couple of decent touches in Diary...and this is another director and he shouldn’t be judged against recent work by vague peers (though we all do it).

I love that site and I love that new feature. I’ve said it a million times on the show, but (Phipps’ treatise on his enjoyment of horror movies) that’s more or less the way I feel about movies in general. If I can’t watch something of quality, then I’d rather watch an amusing disaster.
