Here’s what we’re gonna do…

Kind of like we did with our Howloween Spooktacular, I want to do a marathon of sorts with Summer blockbusters that flopped at the box office. So if you have any films you’d like to hear us talk about, then post them below.

Just so you know, Battlefield Earth will definately be on the list.

I’ve been meaning to see Heaven’s Gate for a long time now, but was it a Summer release?

Okay…

Here we go:
Stealth
The Adventures of Pluto Nash

Around the World in 80 Days
Poseidon
Father’s Day
K-19: The Widowmaker
Daddy Day Camp
Harvard Man
This Thing Of Ours
The Gambler
Eureka
Fido
The Brown Bunny
Wah-Wah
Wyatt Earp
Waterworld
Transformers: The Movie
Titan A.E.
Thunderbirds
Super Mario Bros.
The Stupids
Steel
Speed 2: Cruise Control
Sorcerer
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
Shanghai Surprise
Return to OZ
Quest for Camelot
Pirates
Osmosis Jones
Once Upon A Time in America
Once Upon A Forrest
North
New York Minute
Manderlay
Lucky You
Lords of Dogtown
Little Nemo
Last Action Hero
Kingdom of Heaven
King Arthur
Judge Dread
Jetsons: The Movie
The Island (both versions)
Ishtar
Iron Giant
The Invasion
I Know Who Killed Me
Hudson Hawk
Howard the Duck
Hoot
Gigli
Dudley Do-Right
Cutthroat Island
The Country Bears
Catwoman
Can’t Stop The Music
The Black Cauldron
Battlefield Earth
Avengers
Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle

These are all films that A) were released in the Summer after 1975 (the year of the first blockbuster) and B) failed to make their money back.  Some of these films failed more fantastically than others, but I think this is a pretty fascinating list with a lot of good options for us.

Looking at it now, I’m thinking that we kinda haveta watch The Country Bears, because I’ve heard it features a scene wherein Christopher Walken smashes a miniature version of the country bear lodge and screams for about five minutes.

If we do this all Summer long, then we’re going to need anywhere between 16 and 17 candidates for this impromptu festival.  So think it over and let us know which of these films you’d like to hear us drunkenly play the guitar about.

Yeah, I know there’s a lot there, but I wanted to give you guys as many options as possible with this thing.  The best case scenario would be to watch some bad movies and laugh with my friends and find some hidden gems along the way too.

With that in mind, here are a few that I’m kind of partial to:

Stealth, The Brown Bunny, Titan A.E., Super Mario Bros., Steel, Sorcerer, Shanghai Surprise, Return to OZ, Pirates (if we could find it in time), Last Action Hero, Judge Dread, Ishtar, The Iron Giant, I Know Who Killed Me, Hudson Hawk, Howard the Duck, Cutthroat Island, Country Bears, Can’t Stop the Music and Battlefield Earth.

That’s just me though and even with that list we’d have to shave a few off.

Yeah, there’s no way I’d be able to decide… although Last Action Hero, The Iron Giant, I Know Who Killed Me, Super Mario Bros., and Little Nemo are a few that I noticed in particular. Still, there’s a lot of good shit in that list.

I don’t know where everyone went, but if that’s all we’ve got in terms of suggestions, then that’s what we’ll roll with.  I think we’re going in chronological order, so Sorcerer’s first up.

Here’s the tentative list:
Week 1: Sorcerer (1977)
Week 2: Can’t Stop The Music (1980)
Week 3: Return to OZ (1985)
Week 4: Roman Polanski’s Pirates (1986) Or: Shanghai Surprise (1986)
Week 5: Howard the Duck (1986)
Week 6: Ishtar (1987)
Week 7: Hudson Hawk (1991)
Week 8: Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Week 9: Cutthroat Island (1995)
Week 10: Steel (1997)
Week 11: Titan A.E. (2000)
Week 12: Battlefield Earth (2000)
Week 13: Country Bears (2002)
Week 14: The Brown Bunny (2003)
Week 15: Stealth (2005)
Week 16: Sound of Thunder (2005)

We saw it on Friday, so yeah, that’ll be a nice tie-in.

I never teeeeeeeellllllll.

Any of you.

It’s a big blast of stupid fun, but I don’t want to say much more than that until we get to the show (which we’re recording on Wednesday).  And I think we’re going to switch the first film in the festival with Can’t Stop the Music, if only because it got here first.

I just saw the Iron Giant a few weeks ago.  I thought it was a great flick and I’d love to hear what you guys thought.  Sound of Thunder is the last film on your last?  Man, that movie is painful.

I love Iron Giant too, but I there’s only room for one robot that’ll make me cry this year, and that distinction most assuredly goes to Wall-E.
