The original Evil Dead did have a theatrical release.  At least in my area.  I believe the release was delayed though.  Stephen King even lent a quote to the advertising.  It was something like, “The most original horror movie I have seen in years.” But that was also the days where he was putting his name on everything.  “Wheaties, the most horrific breakfast cereal I have eatten in years.”

I saw Evil Dead in a drive in with Dawn Of The Dead.  Dawn Of The Dead had been out a coupla years already, so Evil Dead was the A feature.

Speaking of Stephen King, what do y’all think about this:

Stephen King in a heap o’ sh*t with the military

I can understand that someone coming from a ‘Barrack Town’ would be upset by Kings comments. The inference is that if you’re not intelligent enough to get a decent job then all you’re worth is cannon fodder!

A bit of a stupid statement from my favourite author, IMHO, and his reply doesn’t seem much more than an attack on his critics to cover his own ineptitude. Very disappointing, whatever your views on the situation in Iraq.

Hey, attack him all you want, but you gotta acknowledge that he’s right. The most intelligent people RARELY end up in the military and 99% don’t wind up where the fighting is(i.e. Iraq).

As politically incorrect as it is to say, he’s 100% accurate.

There is one key requirement to getting in the army; be in good physical condition.  Anything else they can work around.  King’s statement is valid, whether the flag-wavers want to admit it or not.  Wars are funded by the blood, sweat and tears of the poor.  The more educated you are, the further from battle you will be.

You should probably try to convince Chiz and his 137 point IQ of that. He was deployed to Iraq but it got cancelled at the last minute. He would’ve gone to fight in Iraq and he’s VERY smart. Though, I do believe he is outside of the average.

It doesn’t matter to me whether our armed forces are made up of the rich or the poor. What is important is that these men and women are appreciated for the sacrifices they have made.

Uh oh. Things are getting serious ‘round these parts. My bad.

In order to lighten things up...has anyone seen Return to Horror High with George Clooney? What a sack of crap, huh? Why was everything lit with neon and pastel colors in the 80s?

Duh! Neon and Pastels are easy to spot in the dark - thus making you easy zombie fodder!

Stephen King called Return To Horror High “The most original horror movie I have seen in years.”

He also said that about pogs.

Whoever told you Chiz had an IQ of 137(lemme guess...Chiz?) lied. See, it’s been scientifically proven that those with IQ’s over 135 LOOOOOVE “Fear of Clowns"(which is why so few people like it...not that many smart people). See, they GET IT.

Sorry, I’m still channeling the hate from the episode review. I’m gonna work it out though. :)

a lot of dumb, undereducated people join the military.  not all people in the military are dumb and undereducated.

I think King’s sentiment was that the smartest people in the world aren’t generally the first-in-lines to join the military. (probably thinking that most of the better-educated are going to college, which is wrong because at this point it’s near impossible to afford college without joining the military to get them to pay for it...)

The fact of the matter is, King’s right.  Well, half right…

The Army has quite a number of intelligent people joining every day.  I am no exception.  Most of the members of my unit were quite intelligent, and joined of their own volition.  The old stereotype of the dumb guy joining because he has nowhere else to go is pretty far from the truth.  Sure, there are some, and the smarter guys don’t often end up in the infantry, but there are quite a few technical jobs in the military that require you to walk and chew gum at the same time, and they end up ‘stuck in Iraq’ even moreso than the forward combat units.

The real problem the Army faces is keeping its intelligent soldiers.  Most of the smart kids are joining to get at that GI Bill money (although I can’t see why.  It’s not as great as its made out to be).  That means they’re gone in about six.  It leaves the armed forces with slim pickings for their upper NCO leadership.  It’s hard to get a highly intelligent individual to stay on what amounts to poverty wages in such a dangerous profession.  This is especially important as the military becomes more technical and automated.  Recon drones, bomb-disposal robots and the like point to an eventual death of the G.I. soldier.  Once these devices become more commonplace in combat, the Armed Forces are going to need more technically inclined personnel.  To do that, they’re going to have to rethink benefits, as I don’t see the government jacking up the pay of their soldiers anytime soon.
