So I’m sitting here, smoking from the human head that I converted into a bong after listening to your latest podcast, and man, I could really go for some of Andy’s brownies right now. There was so much love going on at the end of this show, what with the gays and lesbians and vampires and werewolves all living in harmony, that I didn’t know whether I should break down and cry or lather myself and fire up the webcam. It was that good. Sexy good.
I dug what you guys had to say about Nosferatu. I had the same reaction when I saw it a couple of years ago. To quote Homer Simpson, this movie was “more boring than church.” But some of the images are frightening and iconic, and the good thing about watching early horror movies is to be able to spot the influences in subsequent films. I’d be interested to listen to you all review The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It’s another one of those silent movies that’s hard to sit through because it’s such a different experience than we’re used to, but I enjoyed it a lot more than Nosferatu.
I looked up who was writing the Bioshock screenplay, and it’s John Logan, who wrote the screenplays for Sweeney Todd, The Last Samurai, The Aviator and some other junk. I liked Verbinski up until the sequels to Pirates of the Carribean, so let’s hope he’s returning to form here.
Amy you break my heart for saying that you hate Charlie Chaplin. Just rip it in half and step all over it.
As for Nosferatu, I enjoy it for what it did for horror and find Max Schreck to be absolutely horrifying. But in all honesty, I agree with the above and I find that The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) was a much more influential horror movie, truly captivating and better than any M. Night Shyamalan movie twist (except for maybe the Sixth Sense).
Anyway, love the episode and cannot wait for you all to do other classic horror films… except for Amy and Andy who will probably ruin everything by trashing them… lol jk.
Oh, and speaking of trashing things - Hemingway? I just read Old Man and the Sea in one sitting last weekend, and I loved it. Chiz, are you seriously comparing books about men fighting, facing nature, drinking heavily and going to war with books about English women sitting around talking about their feelings? You, sir, have just had your second scrotum revoked.

I agree! Plus, Old Man and the Sea? Not his best work. A Farewell to Arms is phenomenal. Read that and you will see how powerful he is as a writer. The guy boxed, drank heavily and ran with bulls… all at the same time!

And don’t forget “The Sun Also Rises”. Great book.

For me it’s a toss-up between Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls, but I liked that one as well. Old Man and the Sea just happens to be the one I read last weekend.

A Farewell to Arms wins in my opinion because of the ending. That last paragraph is one of the saddest endings ever. It is also the perfect example of the good place never lasting. So, everyone up for starting the Ernest Hemingway podcast? Lol.

**This is AMY responding, not Freddy!! Freddy hasn’t learned how to effing logout, which is obnoxious b/c we share the laptop. I’m totally buying a new one for me only with my sweet, sweet guvment check.**
I’m an asshole, what can I say? Although I think it’s fair that I redact that statement b/c I’ve never seen any Charlie Chaplin. I’m prejudging, which isn’t cool. I’m totally sure I’ll hate it, but I’ll give it a go if you want.
And Scott...Freddy is pretty much disgusting all the time, off mic and on. Our friend Greg used to say that Freddy lacks the “shame” lobe of the brain. I think that’s a fair assessment.
Great show as always, but I have to say I’m shocked that there was a conversation about turning a dead man’s genitals into a pot smoking implement and no one thought to use the term “dong bong” (patent pending).
As far as Nosferatu goes, I think Erica hit the nail on the head with her summation: historically important, but a chore to sit through. Actually you guys might want to check out the 1979 remake with Klaus Kinski in the title role. It’s been awhile since I saw this one, but I seem to recall it having some great atmosphere. There’s also a kind of/sort of/not really sequel to the remake called Nosferatu in Venice. This one is pretty far removed from the original, but it also stars Kinski as a vampire and it’s a very good flick.

I used to have that. Completely useless, like tonsils. I’m glad I had it burned out with the squirting dildo and the adult diapers and the hand puppet… well you get the idea.
Freddy...Chiz...Action Movie Podcast......F*CKING DO IT!!!!
Seriously, I almost fell out of chair during so many moments of this episode, I would kill to essentially get that twice a week. If you can drag Andy along, so much the better. I find Andy always has a rather unique perspective about movies, in general.
Looking forward to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s next movie, Click Clack Eep 2.
