Holy mothersmurfing mother of smurf.
I’ve just watched A L’Interieur, the first film by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (who are supposed to be directing the remake of Hellraiser although I believe they just got replaced as writers).
Now this is a messed up film and I mean that in a really good way. Simple story, beautifully filmed, some great tense moments and just so amazingly gory you won’t believe it. I really, really dug this film and it will have you saying ‘no, they can’t do that’ only for them to do that and then go even further over the line of good taste and decency. There are only a couple of brief dodgy cgi shots, most of it is just good old physical effects and about 600 gallons of fake blood.
It’s just come out on DVD over here and I’d send you all copies but it’s in region two and in French. I believe that Dimension are releasing it straight to DVD in the States on the 15 April and I highly recommend you get a copy.
Here’s a review that is much better than me just swearing loudly: http://www.cinematical.com/2007/09/13/tiff-review-a-linterieur-inside/
and here’s a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajq9VwfU_Ss The film does not feature loads of jump cuts as in the trailer.
And for the little bit of trivia, Bustillio, who also wrote the script, used to be a critic in a French horror mag.
