I’ve semi-recently added Shadow of the Vampire, X-Men, The Machine Girl, Plankton, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare to my Queue. I’m especially looking forward to the latter two.
That’s some good stuff, especially, like you said, the latter two. I’m confused though. Have you never seen X-Men?
Nope, I only add movies to my Queue if I haven’t seen ‘em.
That’s crazy. I thought everyone had seen that movie by now.

It never looked very interesting to me, I guess. I’m hardly an X-Men fan.
I’ve just added The Producers, BASEketball, Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny, Friday the 13th: Part IV: The Final Chapter, The Toxic Avenger, and Triloquist to my Queue.
Just got through with The Stepfather 2: MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY. Boring. Aside from another great performance by Terry O’Quinn and the ocular aberration that is Ms. Meg Foster, the pacing is sluggish and the body count low. Not much to recommend here.
Oh. John Brandis is in it too. That’s something.
I’ve got Lindsay Anderson’s “If…” on the way along with the start of another season of Buffy (the 7th and final this time out).

Thoughts? Anything I should bump to the top or take out completely?
Dead and Buried: Like an episode of the Twilight Zone, but with early Stan Winston effects and zombies.
Pet Sematary: One of the better Stephen King adaptations.
Ghoulies/Ghoulies II Double Feature: The first one kinda sucks, but the second takes place in a carnival funhouse and features a fully grown Ghoulie.
The Entity: Haven’t seen it yet, but know that it involves inviso-rape.
Evilspeak: A little boring, but the ending is pretty solid. I remember an exploding head…and Clint Howard. That’s about it.
The Other: Do you mean “The Others”? If so, it’s a solid little ghost story. Saw it a long time ago when it was in theaters and don’t remember much about it. A little slow, but good.
The Prophecy: Killer bears or Walken? Haven’t seen the bears yet, but the Walken one is okay. Viggo plays the devil and he kicks ass.
Better Off Dead: Move this to the top. A childhood favorite.
After Hours: Underrated Scorsese. It’s actually one of my favorites of his.
Street Trash: I honestly didn’t like it very much.
Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior: GREAT! Tony Ja is smurfin amazing and this is one of the few films I’ve seen in the theater (a normal theater) that had people gasping and cheering during the fight scenes, myself included.
Dead Heat: Haven’t seen it. Joe Piscapoe’s in it though, so it doesn’t bode well. On the other hand, Treat Williams is kinda cool I guess.
The Burning: Loved it. Awesome slasher.
Ghost in the Shell: Not into anime, so I’m probably not the best person to ask. Beautifully animated, but I saw it a long time ago and don’t remember anything about the story.
Roman: Haven’t seen it. Supposed to be a lot like May. If you liked that, you might like this. Wo knows?
Red Dragon: Watch Manhunter first.
Manhunter: Watch this first. Maybe even skip Red Dragon altogether.
Demons: Awesome flick. Maybe do this as a double feature with Anguish.
The Funhouse: One of the few films that Tobe Hooper hasn’t smurfin up. I love the carnival barker character, but the villain looks better before you see his real face. You’ll know what I mean when you see it.
Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror: Bizzare. There is very literal “mother smurfin” in this one. “Zombie mother smurfin.”
Inside: Great. Aside from some poor CGI, I liked it a lot.
Martin: Like it a lot. One of Romero’s best.
Big Trouble in Little China: Move it to the top. It’s a smurfin classic.
The Night of the Living Dead: Wait…have you not seen this yet?
Spiral: Dunno. I hate Joel David Moore, so seeing a film that centers around his psychosis doesn’t really appeal to me. I also wasn’t a fan of Hatchet, so there’s that.
The Devil’s Rejects: Liked it a whole hell of a lot more than House of 1000 Corpses.
House on Haunted Hill: Liked it as a kid, haven’t seen it since. Chris Kattan plays a helpful ghost at one point and I remember laughing at that (in a bad way).
Day of the Dead: Might be my favorite of the Dead films. Tough to say. I like the mood and the gore. Definitely the best effects of the three. And Bub is awesome.
Psycho: Move it to the top. It’s even better than you know, even if you think you know everything about the film already.
Inferno: Solid. More pretty colors from Argento, and a great scene involving a record player and flickering lights. Incomprehensible, but still, very good.
Tenebre: Haven’t seen it yet. Heard it’s one of Argento’s better films though.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari: Saw it in an art class during my freshman year of college and don’t remember much about it.
Deep Red: Very good. Also very long and leisurely in its approach. Has a fantastic scene involving a wind-up doll with a knife that freaks me the smurfin out to this day.
Opera: Wouldn’t know, it’s in my queue too.
Mulholland Drive: If you like Lynch, you’ll like this too. It’s hard to recommend this one, because it’s not for everyone, but I dig Lynch, so I dug this.
Faust: Love of the Damned? This is the one with the big tits. I’ve never watched it all the way through. Just sort of watched and re-watched that one part. Just make sure you stop before things get too gross.
In My Skin: MOVE IT TO THE TOP! No one seems to have seen this film and it’s creepy as smurfin! It nearly made my friends puke when we saw it in the theater. Hell, I nearly puked. French body horror at its finest.
Trainspotting: Great stuff.
There Will Be Blood: Do I even need to say it? My favorite film from last year.
2001: Space Odyssey: It’s a classic, and I love it, but some people seem to think that it’s too slow and too incomprehensible to be worth their time. I’m not one of those people. I love it.
Blood Car: Dunno.
From Beyond: Great fun. Made the year after Re-Animator with Combs, Crampton and Foree. Very gooey.
The Company of Wolves: Been meaning to see this one for a while now too.
We Are the Strange: Just watched the trailer. Looks like a bad episode of Reboot.
Shadow of the Vampire: Great premise, pretty good movie. Dafoe is awesome, as always.
Plankton: If you don’t know me by now…
Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare: ...You will never, ever, ever know me.
The Producers: Which one? The Mel Brooks version is great. The musical sucked.
BASEketball: Guilty pleasure.
Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny: Not great.
Friday the 13th: Part IV: The Final Chapter: One of the better sequels.
The Toxic Avenger: Love it. Ask Beef, he loves it too.
Triloquist: THE WORST PIECE OF SHIT I’VE SEEN ALL YEAR. AVOID LIKE THE GODDAMNED PLAGUE. SERIOUSLY! We’ll discuss it on the show tomorrow night.
Vampires: I like it, but it drags after a while.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Maybe the worst of the series. Maybe.
The Hills Have Eyes: The original? Either way, good.
Swamp Thing: Can’t remember. Like the sequel though.
Silent Night, Deadly Night: Excellent. Save it for Christmas though.
A Clockwork Orange: TOP! NOW!
American Psycho: Really good.
Oh wow, that’s a lot of words! Thank you very, very much.
However, just to clarify…
The Other: No, I don’t mean The Others., I mean this. Looks creepy as shit, if you ask me.
The Night of the Living Dead: No, I haven’t seen it yet… pretty embarrassing, I know.
Faust: Nope, not Love of the Damned, just Faust. It’s a Jan Svankmajer film (He directed Neco z Alenky, an absolutely horrifying adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Check it out).
In My Skin: To be perfectly honest, I’m a little nervous about this one. Doesn’t sound like the kind of movie I can just watch any old time… I’ll really have to be in the mood.
Triloquist: F**k me, are you serious? I was really looking forward to this one…
Otay, I’ve got Epidemic and Hard Times coming my way (along with more Buffy—you’re almost done hearing about it from me).
Epidemic is a Lars Von Trier film about Lars Von Trier making a film about an epidemic, and then said epidemic actually taking place. Or something. I dunno, actually, but I like Von Trier and I’m expecting a lot of meta-weirdness and gore from this, his first film. Hooray!
Hard Times is a Walter Hill flick starring Charles Bronson as a bare knuckle boxer who crunches faces during the depression for a fight promoter who bears a striking resemblance to James Coburn (played in the film by James Coburn). There’s nothing meta about this, just a bunch of hard asses fighting in Newsie hats, as envisioned by Walter Hill (The Warriors, The Driver, Streets of Fire, 48 Hours, too much greatness to name).
Lars Von Trier set me on a path to becoming a large television owner. Deeps and I had a tiny 13” TV and tried to watch the Kingdom on it. We pulled our crappy sofa (aka the other piece of furniture we owned) close to it but it still wasn’t enough to watch 6 hours of Danish horror. So we scraped our money together and bought a 27” TV and hauled it up three flights of stairs to our tiny apartment.
It didn’t work.
But after exchanged it we spent some quality time with The Kingdom. I’m not a fan of all of Von Trier’s work, but some of it is quite enjoyable.
