AMC had JAWS 1,2 & 3 on for the 4th. (No JAWS 4, but you are not seeing me cry over that one!)

Had JAWS on VHS but not DVD yet, so I recorded them. Just started the 3rd one right now. (Not the best of the three by far, but we already covered the Denis Quaid = Yummy thing.)

In retrospect, there is not much I can say about them that is really bad. Well within the acting and film quality of the day. Except for Simon MacCorkindale as Philip FitzRoyce. Bleh!

I also notice how non-special effect driven the first two are. It’s all about tension. One of those few horror flicks where you cannot say honestly that you would do it all different. And the one liners still ring. Like Roy Scheider’s line in #2, “I’m all alone out here…” (RIP)

Had no idea that John Putch (Sean Brody in JAWS3) was now a director (I love the “Where are they now?” stuff)

I still wonder why Sea World agreed to this film. No matter the publicity, the fear of the water JAWS causes is just so high!

Great stuff.

All I have to say about Fear itself is “it’s no Masters of Horror” .

Fear Itself is, in fact, worse than Masters of Horror. It’s… it’s just not good at all, really (although I did love Family Man).

While I dont think Fear Itself isnt as good as Masters Of Horror….I have been surprised that Fear Itself isnt awful for network television…..I’ve only watched three episodes but so far, not nearly as bad as I expected…...

You know, I’ve never seen any of the Jaws sequels.

I posted a couple of rants about Fear Itself on the NOTLP board. I liked the first episode alright, skipped the next two. The last two episodes were not good, in my opinion. There were things I enjoyed but overall they were pretty weak. At least they look pretty.

With Fear Itself, the recent episode Eaters could have been pretty good.  The villain was scary enough as a Cajun Canibal.  Making him a shape shifter was just stupid.  He isn’t menacing when he looks like a fat cop.  He’s menacing when he looks like the hulking hairy wino.  They have one hour.  Why cant they just keep it simple and scary instead of trying to cram so much BS into the bit.

The Orphanage was outstanding.  Like The Others but done better.  I liked it much better than The Devil’s Backbone, and I liked The Devil’s Backbone alot.  Treating the spirits as both terrifying and benign and helpful is a terrific approach.

Watched Titan A.E. I’m glad Don Bluth doesn’t make movies any more.  Some of the camera angles are really bad and the characters have no weight on screen.

Watched Shrek this morning.  The first one still holds up but the sequels really suck.

Watching the first season of Night Gallery (“Portifoy!”), the Black Cobra films (Italian rip-offs of Stallone’s COBRA, starring Fred Williamson), and was about to start watching a Japanese horror flick called The Horrors Of Malformed Men. Anyone see this?

Also recently watched a smurfin of a Japanese film called Three Resurrected Drunkards.

I love Williamson’s Black Cobra films. I picked the first one up on DVD for $1, so you really can’t beat that.. As for The Horrors of Malformed men, it’s a damn good movie. I picked it up when it was first released on DVD after years of being completely unavailable, and was impressed. It certainly is off-the-wall. Visually it’s very nice, and features several solid performances. With that being said, it really isn’t about the acting though or the story(which is all over the place, and full of holes); it’s about the experience of viewing this film. I don’t know anyone else who’s seen it yet, so I’d be interested to get your opinion..

Went and saw The Dark Knight, er, last night.  Heath Ledger was stellar and was the highlight of the film.  Aaron Eckhardt was very good as well, as Harvey Dent.  Otherwise, the performances were mid-grade, perhaps because of Ledger’s overpowering performance.  Very creatively shot as well.  On the whole, about a three out of five.

Started back up watching the first season of Dexter, last night.  I rather enjoy that show, a lot.  Also watched Troll at the behest of my wife.  Well, at least she’ll stop bugging me to watch it, now.  Also watched the first installment of Whedon’s Dr. Horrible.  Pretty damn humorous.  I am a sucker for anything Nathan Fillian related, though.  The guy just sucks me right in.
