you know they are out there.

The guy who smuggles black tar heroin inside of blood diamonds and sells them in order to fund the terrorists, even that guy probably liked Wall*E.  You know who doesn’t like Wall*E though? Neo-cons.  Go figure!  A pro environmental message in a kids movie causes an uproar on the same weekend when Wanted glamorizes guns and the power one obtains when they have them (and hey, don’t get me wrong, I liked both films a whole hell of a lot, but the message is there in no uncertain terms).

The people I know who also saw it have been telling me how they were surprised by the environmentalist message and I know Devin on CHUD wrote a column about it, but has there really been an uproar from the right?

Also, Wanted blows.

The talking heads are bitching, as always.  Doesn’t mean everyone feels that way, just the vocal minority that feel the need to make a mountain out of a molehill.

Also, smurfin you for not liking Wanted.  The voiceover aside, I had a lot of fun with this one.

Wanted blows.

What kind of serious complaints could you possibly have for Wanted? That it was too ridiculous?

The movie just doesn’t deliver for me.  I was into it for the first half or so.  I was willing to get over the bullet-bending bullshit because I was going to have to, but at what point do you take a story that could have been exponentially more interesting and decide to fundamentally change it?

Some of my dislike was bias—I’m a fan of the comic and the movie is nothing like it—but I knew it was going to be different, so I tried to get over it and have fun with it.  My main problem is that the film doesn’t thematically stay in one place.  It’s everywhere.  Are you for good?  Doing whatever the smurfin you want?  Weaving crazy-ass kill orders?  Gratuitous violence for shock value?  All of it has no point, which is my main problem.  I admit that the movie has some great visuals, and there are certain action beats I really liked a lot (Wesley’s final invasion springs to mind, it had some really innovative, practical shots.  But even that was sans bullet-bending).  If I could have divorced myself from the source material completely, I would have probably thought it was just a dumb, fun action movie.  Because I know it could have been more, and had the elements in it that could have made it more, it was just a dumb movie.

But seriously, Wall-E was awesome.

The link below leads to the short film, Presto, which plays before Wall*E.  It’s been dugg quite a bit, so you may want to check this one out while you still can.

Presto was an amazing lead-in for Wall-E. We were reduced to tears laughing our asses off. We did recover our asses, but the surgery took awhile. I think I should sue Pixar for the cost of ass re-attachment.

I thought Wall-E was good but shallow.  There really wasn’t much there outside of a string of feel good moments.

I think I said, the only “kids” I ever see with Heely’s are fat.  And didn’t you talk about trying to find Heely’s in your size on one of the older shows?  I can’t remember if that was you or someone else.  My mind is awash in podcasts right now, Aaron.

That was me. . . I know you were talking about only “kids”. . . I just love my Heely’s and felt like I hadn’t told anybody lately. Sorry to derail the thread. Carry on. . ..

Dude, anytime we can add Heely’s to the conversation it’s fine by me.  But I can’t believe you got married at 23!  I’m 23.  I can’t even fathom doing that at this stage in my life.

My question is - where the hell has Beef been? Summer vacation?

“Where’s the Beef?”

Come on, call in with your best old lady voice and ask. Oh, that’s right these are the skype kids who refuse to get voicemail.
