It’s time to play catchup.  After a week off due to sick time (do I get paid for that?) Wednesday’s Haul is back with reviews of Rebecca Kraatz’s House of Sugar (check it out!) Drink and Draw Social Club (imagine a nice collection of con sketches but with beer,) Superman Camelot Falls (pretty but fractured) and Eric Wight’s My Dead Girlfriend (containing a few of the many John Hughes references this podcast.)

Also find out what the NYCC looked like from my own personal view-- in front of my computer in snowy Chicago.  And, as usual, Wednesday’s Haul runs down some of the more interesting releases of the week, including Green Lantern, 1-800-Mice and Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.  And what exactly do I have in common with Claire from Heroes?  Probably a bit more than you thought.

I’ve got this chronic problem with my sinus’s, but I’m so used to them being messed up, I sometimes don’t even notice it. One of the side effects is depression. But sooner or later I realize that I’m stressing out about some imsignifigant thing (or someone that knows me points out that I’m doing it) and I take a decongestant and I’m back to normal in like 2 hours.

So anyway, I realized last night that I was all depressed but I can’t take the decongestant at night because it keeps me awake. Waking up this morning to find a new Wednesday’s Haul, along with the Pistachio Muffin that my wife bought me to have for breakfast, has made this a really good day!

I’ll admit that I was totally overwhelmed by the NY Con, and add to that the fact that I so wanted to meet anyone that listens to my ‘cast, so I didn’t venture too far from the table for both days that I was there. I saw the con pretty much from one vantage point, so I too, even though I was there, am looking forward to some con coverage. I did listen to Ian Levenstein’s Comic Timing which had some con coverage, and I’ll check out the Variant Edition when I get home, thanks for the heads up on that.

I didn’t even know about DC Countdown until you mentioned it. Rather than bug you, I googled it and ended up at the Wizard page which had an interview with Paul Dini that covered it pretty well. I just emailed my son to let him know that one of his favorite characters, Kyle Rayner, will play an important roll in that series.

Thanks for another great episode! Wednesday’s Haul is one of my favorite podcasts. Now I’ll go back and finish my second listen to the show!

I’m trying to figure out whether I’m resigned or excited about Countdown.  In all honesty, I could have used a break between weekly titles.  In everything I’ve seen about Countdown, it’s saying “hey, look, another weekly series” instead of “hey, look, a redefinition of the New Gods” or “hey look, here’s where the multiverse really begins.” It feels like they’re actually selling the weekly aspect of it more than the story part.  But that seems to be DC’s modus operandi lately-- sell the event, figure out the story later.

As I told you before, next week’s podcast will be titled “Pistachio Muffin” in honor of you.
