Interesting story.  My local comic book store sold out of all their back issues of Welcome to Tranquility this past week.  He says that they sat on the shelf for months and were quickly snatched up just recently.  I picked up the last 2 copies of issues 1 and 2.

And you’re saying it’s all because CBQ has raved about the book since it came out? That’s the influence we have…

I’m merely reporting what I was told.  I’m not making any claims about causation.  If you want to give CGQ credit for it, go right ahead.

It would be interesting to hear if this is just a Pittsburgh thing or something more global.

I recently heard that a tiny fishing village in Japan just sold out of their copies too!  Clearly it was a village of comic-loving queer fisherman.  But aren’t they all?

Gairucomicu Village is well known in the Hokkaidō islands for their love of western graphic novels—instead of traditional Japanese manga—and their rather permissive policies towards same sex relationships, dating back hundreds of years.  If Welcome to Tranquility was going to do well anywhere in Japan, it would be there.

WTT has been at the top of my read stack since it came out.  Love me some WTT!  It’s totally Northern Exposure meets JSA, and I love it love it love it!  And call me crazy (no, really, I’ve come to terms with it), but I look at the Golden Age comics pages as an added bonus.  Makes it feel like a little more thought went into it.  Makes me happy.  The Mr. Articulate ski chalet/ murder mystery was brilliant.

It’s totally Northern Exposure meets JSA, ...

Nice analogy; the people going to CAPE should mention that to Gail as a Hollywood pitch line.  I bet the SciFi channel would snap it right up!

With a good heaping of TOP TEN and EUREKA mixed in.
I bought the first issue and liked it pretty good, but I knew I’d want the collection so I’m….  (say it with me)  “Waiting for the Trade.”
I hate to buy things twice.  I’m a cheap bastard!

I haven’t read this yet, but i’ve been hearing so many good things on CBQ and other podcasts that now i’m anxious to check it out.

at this point, though, i think i’ll have to wait for the trade since i hate coming in late on a story.
