So, who actually went to the comic shop today?  Which free books did you pick up?  What sorts of things did your shop do to celebrate?

I went to Earthworld.  The shop was a mob scene.  I’ve never seen so may people in the store at one time.  Ever.  Scarlet Witch and Phoenix were special guests.  (JC, the owner, has different guests each year.  Wonder Woman & She-Hulk spring to mind in years past.)

I grabbed the Nexus book, the Lynda Barry book, the Virgin Comics book, the Digital Webbing book and the Spider-Man book.  I also grabbed a Fables and a Sandman, which weren’t technically official FCBD giveaways, but my shop was giving them out.  And I got two Batman Heroclix figures.  I passed on the “Doctor Doom fortune cookies.” (I’m guessing they were Doctor Doom cookies because there was a Doom mask in the box with them.)

As for purchases, I bought the latest two Kingdom Come figures (Aquaman and Nightstar.)

I only stayed about fifteen minutes.  There was too much chaos and no room to move around.  I probably would have picked up a few more of the freebies, but I didn’t want to be greedy.

I got annoyed in the shop and it saddened me…

F-ing crowded at Graham Cracker’s today...they had a huge sign out front and everyone and their mom came in.  Little kids going crazy over the Simpsons, Micky Mouse etc....

I nabbed for free JLA, Dark Umbrella and the Who Wants to Be a Superhero Comic.  That’s about all I could voice out before I finally got to check out.  I got the two I wanted tho.

I wore my CBQ t-shirt in honor and spark up some convos with actual comic book fans which was nice...they were also giving away HeroClix and FF4 and KISS posters.  None of which I part took of.

I feel kind of cheated b/c the loudest got dibs mostly.  I just couldn’t bear the thought of yelling at my beloved comic book store workers to get free shit.  But I also worked in retail, and that’s a weakness.

But still my overall haul was great!!  I now have ALL the Welcome to Tranquility (which the GF is enjoying as well) and read it...a-MA-zing!  Buffy was good, and Strangers in Paradise was a romantics wet dream....one more left to go and then I’m thrown into a deep depression.

Very saddened by the fact that I just saw the list for next week and I have NOTHING to buy!!  Guess I should go back and spend my allotted amount on back issues eh?

If y’all can get your hands on the Lynda Barry comic, I strongly urge you to do it.  It’s like a writer’s workbook, and unlike anything we usually discuss on the ‘cast, but it is (to use Lindsay’s phrase) a-MA-zing.  (BTW, Linds, I’m so happy you got Tranquility.  I totally knew you would love it.)

I was missing my glasses that day, so I had trouble reading the titles from the other side of the counter. It basically went a bit like:

“I want Owly, Peanuts, Spider-man, Whiteout, uhh...what does that say over there? There, on the far right...”

“Train Bombing Strikes Terror in the Heartland.”

“Yeah, that and uh....(holy crap I’m holding up the line) Justice League.”

I was a wee bit disappointed with my haul this year, since the comic shop I went to didn’t have all the ones I wanted. I went to midtown, but the line was so long, I just didn’t bother. It still was a pretty good year, though.

I didn’t even see the free comic books.  Honestly, I forgot that we had free comics at CAPE.

I really wanted the Nexus book but i called my shop first and it turns out they didn’t even get that one in - wah!  i didn’t have it in me to brave the crowds to see what else was there.  my shop’s in the same building as the movie theater, and the Spider-man 3 mob made me want to stay away.

I got Spider-Man and then the Battlestar Galactica Season Zero #0 / Lone Ranger #0 by Dynamite.  I actually am liking the B-star books.  they are a fun distraction from the real world (i.e. the Marvel Universe).  I should be reading the fee books this week.  I need to find the Hulk by McGuiness though.  it was a tough choice.  At the store I went to they had cake, punch and snacks as well as Mary Marvel, Phoenix and Ultimate Captain America in person.  It was packed.  I was, of course distracted by this cute skinny boy.  i didn’t get the “vibe” though.

I forgot it was free comic book day and got there late. The only seemingly worthwhile book left was the Astounding Wolfman, but I haven’t read it yet. Anyone else pick it up?

Surprisingly so. There was a strip where Lucy was punching her little brother, Linus. Charlie sees this and says something like “Why are you doing that?” Lucy answers, “Because he simply exists!”

O.O....They can’t get away with that now.

...And with that I am simply assuming you guys were talking about the “Peanuts” comic.
