Not too terribly surprised. The “joke” lines in the previews smack too much of cutesy self-awareness.. the “it’s a bird, it’s a plane!” routine, or perhaps “I heard you flew in last week.” Wink wink, nudge nudge. I hope that isn’t representative of what passes for wit in the script.
Expect a full review on Friday’s show, but I liked it. The big problem is that it didn’t end with a bang. It could have gone out on relatively the same note in 5 minutes instead of 20. The first half of the movie is greatness though.
Count me in the camp that really liked it even though I could pick it apart to death. Maybe it’s the nostalgia factor but I enjoyed the way it (inconsistently) tied into the first two films. Routh did nothing and I don’t think Bosworth was horrible. She was just there. We could have had a Katie Holmes-type performance and instead got a mediocre one. Routh was able to pull off Clark but his Superman was kind of blank and barely interacted with any actor better than he was (where was the real Luthor/Supes showdown?)
Lois Lane had the “Head of Steel!” 8 hits and not a single cut or bruise. Too bad her character wasn’t that tough and aggressive like Lois Lane should be. 1st 15 minutes and last 20 minutes were boring. Jet scene was fun.
