I’m currently reading ‘Salem’s Lot, by, of course, Stephen King. King has a tendency to drag on with description, but otherwise it’s really good. What are you reading?
I haven’t read the novel, but I own the movie. A friend of mine read the novel and said it was nothing like Tobe Hooper’s made for TV ‘Salem’s Lot’. I love the original Salem’s Lot movie though all the same.
I liked early King, although horror starts to run together for me, especially King. But, hey, after 70 some odd books, how can you not repeat yourself?
I still can’t forgive him for the ending of the Dark Tower series. That’s King’s biggest failing to me: can’t write a decent ending. Often great build-up, though.
I’m reading River of Darkness, about Theodore Roosevelt’s nearly fatal trip up the Amazon. I’m also reading Lightly on the Land, a trail-building book for work.
Voice of the Fire by Alan Moore. The first chapter is pretty rough reading; retarded child from 5000 BC who can only speak in the present tense. It’s taken me a few times to get through some paragraphs.
I just finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Stefan reviewed it a while ago. Even if it’s now an Oprah book
it’s still on my top ten list. Works on every level.

I just finished this one, too, and thought it was outstanding.
I’m rereading Shelby Foote’s “The Civil War: A Narrative,” the only history book I ever considered literature.
Just started On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony, found it for a buck at a used book store. So far so good.
Isn’t that part of a longer series?
Yes, I believe there are 7 or 8? It’s a strange world where magic and science coexist, and ideas have personas (ie: Death, Fate) and each book is when a new person takes over for said persona. I heard the last 2 books are the Devil and God. This one is Death and it has exceeded my expectations so far. I’m gushing aren’t I?
