I’ve seen Taxi Driver several times and each time I watch it I think to myself, “I don’t get it.  What’s the big deal?”

It’s slow as hell, the score is annoying and story isn’t all that great.  Scorsese does a good job with the camera work but I just don’t care about the characters or anything that happens in the film.

I know that disliking Taxi Driver is heresy in the film community but I think it’s incredibly overrated.

I felt that way about American Beauty. I only liked two things about that movie, and they both hung from Thora Birch’s torso.

Lady, people aren’t chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard fillings.

Of the movies listed, I still think Taxi Driver is genius. The others I could do without.

2001:  A Space Odyssey.

I’ll never understand the fascination.  The visuals were great, but the story is non-existent, and the film is way too long--Kubrick must have shot his editor at some point.  As far as characters go, you know you’ve got a problem when the most interesting character is a computer with a logic problem.

It looks fantastic, but listening to an Arthur C. Clarke lecture would actually be more entertaining.

Gangs of New York is one of those that I like more each time I see it.  I hate the U2 score though.  Awful idea.
