Ok, I was really excited to see this movie but from the trailer, it looks like it has nothing to do with the comic book.

It has a lot to do with the comic book in small ways. Angelina Jolie looks like ass. This movie looks like ass.

Stupid Timur Bekmambetov.

Director Timur Bekmambetov said that the film would keep the same characters from the miniseries, though the director would take liberty in adapting the comic book’s world.

Comic book author Mark Millar described the first half of the film as being close to the graphic novel. Millar also said that the film’s ending was similar, though it was relocated elsewhere from the setting in the graphic novel. The superhero costumes in the graphic novel were also removed, with the exception of the leather attire worn by Wesley Gibson and The Fox. The story arc of the Fates issuing death orders in line with the novel’s original theme of predestination was a new element to the film, an addition to which Millar was amicable.

As someone who liked the absurdity of the Wanted comic, I’m sad that they seem to have pretty much removed everything about the comic that makes it what it is. If I knew nothing about this film being made, then watched this trailer without sound, I wouldn’t think it was anything more than your typical action shoot-em-up. Hell, even once seeing it was titled “Wanted”, I wouldn’t have though it had any connection to the comic book.

What gets me is that even with all the changes being made, they couldn’t even give us some visual representation to let us know, “hey, this is clearly based on the Mark Millar comic!”. Any other comic book movie, you’d be about to KNOW what comic the film is based on, even if you watched a trailer without sound, and didn’t know that any film was being made. You’re adapting one visual medium to another visual medium, there should be a visual relation back to the source material! And sometimes, it’s just little things. While I enjoy Constantine (yeah, I said it!), I can’t help but gripe that with all the liberties taken with the source, they couldn’t even bother to have the character LOOK how he looks in the comic. Would it have really killed them to have Keanu wear a tan overcoat? They couldn’t dye his hair?
