Ugh. I find it disturbing the movie posters are Che Guevara homages.

Can someone explain to me the appeal of Rambo? I just don’t get it. One man taking on a whole country? I mean really. I know I should suspend my disbelief for action movies but even this is stretching it. I like action movies. I am not a film snob. Just why?

Rambo is all glisteny with man muscles. Even if we never know the origin of the glistening he sports. Though we can guess. When he gets dirty and pumps the muscles he starts to shine. A wild look comes to his eyes and his man rage is unleashed. This is when he begins to ravage. Ravage all men who shoot blanks at him.

A taste of John Rambo.

I cannot explain why I like the Rambo movies, but everytime they are on tv I watch them. I also watch the Missing in Action and Die Hard movies when they are on.

I may see this but 2 and 3 were horrible.  First Blood is a masterpiece.

Dude, part 2 was cool too—the appeal is simply this: In the first movie, he took on an entire town(believably) as they sent out everyone to bring him in. He was in the right, they were in the wrong.

In the 2nd movie he took on parts of a country, and he took it on when we were all feeling super-patriotic. It wasn’t all that believable, but damn it felt good to see him beat those Vietnamese and Russians—who we didn’t have good feelings about at the time.

There is no third movie as far as I’m concerned.

So now the badass is back, and he’s more vicious than ever(using a jeep-mounted machine gun on a guy’s head!?!?!?! Holy crap, yeah!). How can you not like that? I’ll tell you how—you don’t have any testosterone in your system. If you did, you’d be all over it.

That’s what I was saying when I, um, saw the future.  :)

Actually, he wasn’t.  It seems less obvious in the movie, but in the book, he just snaps.  He kills a ton of people for, honestly, no good reason.  The movie demonized the police a little more than it should have, but at the end of the day, the sheriff was doing his job.  Vagrancy laws are vagrancy laws and the sheriff was smart to do what he could to discourage drifters from sticking around.  Basically, what I am saying is yea, they pushed him, but he pushed right back.  The movie also leaves out the fact that Teagle fought in Korea and deeply resents the way Vietnam Vets are treated in the media when half the country doesn’t even know there was a war in Korea, much less care that he fought in it.  That’s why he is so hard on Rambo.

My main point is simple; while I love First Blood to pieces, it is not because John Rambo is a hero in that film.  It’s because I empathize with how he felt and because it’s just a damn good character film.  My love for First Blood is also why I despise the two sequels.  The John Rambo in First Blood was a sad, unstable person that had no business being responsible for the welfare of others.  He didn’t need prison time and hard labor, he needed counseling and someone to give a shit.  He damn sure did not need to be back into war.

First Blood is amazing (minus the next to films) and this upcoming Rambo film is going to be awesome.  Rambo found God in the movie which means not only is he going to be kicking major ass but he is going to be kicking major ass for the Big Man Upstairs!  In the original trailer for it they show Rambo just taking down tons of people and then saying one of the greatest guy movie lines ever: “When you’re pushed, killing’s as easy as breathing.”  Then in the new trailer they feature Drowning Pool’s Bodies which just matches the feel perfectly when Rambo takes on Burma.  It is just awesome and Amy, Erica, and Andy are wrong.

Valid points but give me Die Hard and Lethal Weapon over Rambo any day. Maybe I don’t like it because I hate Sylvester Stallone. That is not saying much because I don’t really care for any of the major action hero stars, i.e. Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Arnold. But Stallone is at the bottom of that list.
And Kevin, I have plenty of testosterone in my system. I have so much it is coming out of my a**! Wait, that doesn’t sound right…

Now that the new Rambo movie is coming out, I’ve got my fingers crossed for a COBRA prequel.  Stallone as Marion Cobretti rules.  Marion Cobretti wore cool sunglasses, drove a rockin’ car, and knew how to deliver a kick ass one-liner.  Check out this wit:

Night Slasher: The court is civilized, isn’t it pig?
Cobretti: But I’m not. This is where the law stops and I start - sucker!

Supermarket Killer: Get back! I got a bomb here! I’ll blow this whole place up!
Marion Cobretti: Go ahead. I don’t shop here.

I know that everyone loves Rambo but let’s not forget about Stallone’s other great performance in Cobra.

I’m just saying.

Granted Rambo is not at the top of my action movie list either but still the movie looks awesome.

I too am a Die Hard fan because John McClane is just hardcore.  I mean his progression is greater than any other action movie heroes.

Die Hard - He saves his wife and a group of hostages in a building.
Die Hard 2 - He saves his wife and is protecting our skies.
Die Hard with a Vengeance - He tries to save places in New York City and return money stolen by Hans Gruber’s brother WITH Samuel L. Jackson (awesome…).
Live Free or Die Hard - He saves the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and his daughter (with Mac Boy and Kevin Smith).
I believe that the fifth Die Hard movie will be him saving the world and then the sixth is him saving the universe.

I’m not as worked up on this film mainly because I had read the book before every seeing the first movie, so the films do not work so well for me.  The book blew me away and at the time (9th grade) thought it was the best thing ever written.  Then the movie came out and I was so stoked until I saw it and the changes just killed it for me, especially the ending.  Chalk me up as more of a die hard fan.

Rambo?  meh

They lost me at Rambo 3.  I sorta liked the first two.  Of course, I am not a Rocky fan either.

huh.

Guess I’m just not a Sly fan.  Except for Demolition Man.  For some reason I like that one.  Just don’t tell anyone.

Holy crap, the banner ad on this thread as I am typing is for Rambo in theaters jan. 25.  spooky.

This proves it.  Rambo is the devil.
