Another lackluster summer movie season is upon us?

So far, I’ve only seen two summer movies that I liked:

(1)  28 Weeks Later - came and went.  Possibly because it has no real protagonist for the audience to identify with?  Some great scary sequences, though.

(2)  Day Watch - http://imdb.com/title/tt0409904/.  Surprisingly, believe it or not, this limited release sequel to the dubious “Night Watch” is a very good summer popcorn flick, excellent direction, fast-paced, not confusing like “Night Watch,” just creative and totally entertaining.  Not enough boobies, though.

Aside from some amazing action sequences, Live Free or Die Hard really wasn’t that great. Bruce Willis looked like he was constantly on the verge of leaving. Hell, Justin Long did a better job than him. Plus, the baddie was a bit of a pansy.

I guess “Hot Fuzz” came out too early to count as a summer movie, but that would still be my pick. 28 Weeks Later was pretty good, and I laughed a lot at “Knocked Up”. Hasn’t been a great summer for movies so far, though.

I thought Transformers was pretty awesome for what it was.

Heck with summer Hot Fuzz was the best movie I’ve seen in 2007 so far.  Intelligent, amusing, well acted and just absurd it was wonderfully excessive.  Summer flicks…eh, sadly i think the Fantastic Four sequel was probably the best.

So far we’ve got Knocked Up and Transformers as the only two good summer films.

I thought Transformers was pretty awesome for what it was.

I thought you used your power of hate responsibly. I was dry-retching throughout this crapfest. I swear I could hear crickets chirping in the audiece during the scene where Sam retrieves something the Autobots need—SO BORING!

2+ hours for an action film?!? Even Pirates couldn’t stink worse than this film. I told my friend all the reasons he likes Bay films are the ones I hate them for.

There were two hotties, but since they didn’t wrestle in Autobot lubricant I lost interest.

If Hot Fuzz counts as a summer movie, I definitely choose that. I liked it way more than Shaun of the Dead…
