I don’t remember my entire message, but I do remember my FF comment. FF3 still followed the origional FF archetype structure, where there was really no character developement, hence no love stories. It wasn’t until FF4 that characters were actually given official names let alone narratives. FF6 was the first real LOVE story in a FF game, and one of the most famous FF moments (the opera scene). FF7 broke the mold and moved the game from sprites to 3D characters on pre-rendered backgrounds. FF8 was the first time the series moved to a theme of love which was abandoned for FF9 (a more traditional return to the origional formula that made FF so great to begin with). FFX tried to re-invent to game much like 7 did, and is one of the most debated of the series. You either love that game and consider it the epitome of all things Final Fantasy, or you’re like me and you loathed it. FFX-2 universally hated by most (I however loved this one) changed everything about the game, including the fact that each iteration is a stand alone series.
As far as the FF movie(’s). .. unless you count the anime series (crap!) or Advent Children (never intended to be a movie in the first place), The Spirits Within is the only true Final Fantasy movie. A movie taht bankrupt a company and bombed at the theater, I loved it though. I think they tried mass marketing a VERY niche genre and story, and unless you know all the inside gags and references, it was doomed to fail.
that’s enough of my dissertation on Final Fantasy, I’m going back to playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance instead of working (on my gameboy, the sequel is soon to follow).
