Deeps and I just watched Witchfinder General on Wednesday night….

Man, I forgot how screamy that movie was.

For tonight he suggested a triple feature at the Brattle Theater: Zodiac, Eastern Promises and I Know Who Killed Me.

I think I’ll just have a nice dinner and go to bed early instead.

I’ve been absent from the forums for almost two days now due to severe illness and violent wretching, sorry Kids! I’m getting back into the swing of things and catching up on posts now.

I had to slow my roll in the horror film watching department and firmly apply myself to the task of job hunting. Having been laid off by my former employee unexpectedly (and they were very upset to have to let me go) I’ve been nose deep in Craigslist and what-have-you, looking for my next gig.

Sorry to hear that bettie (is that your name?) I’ve been laid off before and it’s such a shitty thing to have happen. At least your Argento filmfest is keeping you busy. Good luck! Keep us updated!

I got the Grindhouse Experience, Vol. 2 set about a week ago and am watching flicks in that.  Other than the fact the set is full of a bunch of VHS transfers, it has a lot of good cult flicks, such as:
Ruggero Deodato’s post-apocalyptic trashfest Raiders of Atlantis
Stelvio Massi’s Highway Racer

Dude, how is that Deodato film? I’ve wanted to see it but just haven’t been able to get around to it.

Hans - 10 January 2008 08:19 PM
Last night I couldn’t get to sleep so I watched Eight Diagram Pole Fighter with Gordon Liu.  Truly not the film to cure insomnia, this one is packed with some amazing fight scenes and, kind of surprising, a fairly engrossing plot.  One of the best post-Venoms, Shaw flicks.

I HAVVVVE TO SEE THIS! This is another one that I’ve not been able to get around to seeing but it’s high on the list. In fact I’m bumping it to the top of the netflix queue right now.
- I just watched Shaolin vs Evil Dead and I’m about to watch Shaolin vs Evil Dead 2
Part one is pretty disjointed but suuuuch fun. Wuxia in spades and Gordon Liu is always top notch. I already know a little about the sequel so I’m going into it ready to be dissapointed.

Raiders of Atlantis:  Won’t rank as one of Deodato’s best.  However, it is fast-paced, has a ridiculous plot, and general outrageousness all around.  Cheesy fun.  I’ve watched it a couple of times now.  Christopher Connelly stars with eurocult stars George Hilton and Ivan Rassimov in small roles.  Believe it or not, I think Deodato recycles the hotrods from Grease (1978) in this one.

Eight DIagram Pole Fighter is now my favorite Gordon Liu flick behind Fist of the White Lotus.  He is amazing to watch.

haha nice. I can’t wait to see that.
Speaking of Gordon Liu where does The Master Killer and Shaolin Dunken Monk rate on that list?

Those are equally entertaining.  However, I think that Eight Diagram has the better fight sequences—I can’t wait to hear what you think of the final third of the film.  I’ve got another Gordon Liu flick somewhere in the house called the Treasure Hunters, which I haven’t watched, which is supposed to be an Indiana Jones-type adventure flick.

Executioners from Shaolin and its sequel, Fist of the White Lotus, are amazing—not only because Liu really, really kicks ass in both, but Lo Lieh’s Pai Mei character, for me, ranks as one of the all-time best screen villians.  Fist of the White Lotus—an easy 10 for me.

I have to echo Hans’ sentiment on Eight Diagram pole fighter. It is without question, one of the best Kung -Fu movies ever.. The shit Gordon Liu does is mind blowing. While on the topic of The brothers Shaw, am I the only one who found five deadly venoms to be massively overrated? I can think of tons of Shaw stuff I like better.. I’m personally working my way through the American version of the Office and I smurfin love it!. I’m up to season 3 and am pretty sad I’m not gonna get to see anymore of the exploits of one Dwight K Schrute for a while.. I’m probably gonna watch Heroin Busters or The Big Racket tonight. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better?

Jesus, all this incredible praise for Eight Diagram Pole Fighter. I’m going out right after work tonight and buying it.

I bought the Castellari trio from BU when they came out:  Heroin Busters, Big Racket, and Street Law.  Big Racket is my favorite of those two.  The only thing about a Fabio Testi movie, almost any one that I’ve seen him in, is that he isn’t a very good actor.  The best performance that he’s ever given, imo, is in Zulawski’s The Most Important Thing: Love.  Anyway, both Heroin Busters and Big Racket are very good eurocrime flicks.

I watched Joshua(6, T- down), Paprika (5, T-down), and Benny’s Video(6.5, T-down). Not a bad selection.

When I looked up Joshua on IMDB I came across a film Sam Rockwell finished. Choke should see release this year. It’s based on the Palahniuk novel and Rockwell plays the lead. He can play neurotic so this could be a fun film. This is the director’s first endeavor, but at least he’s not a music video director.

Tonight I will either watch one of the movies we have slated for Sunday or a little Miike film called Big Bang Love, Juvenile A.

Stop being sick Senor Trece.

It’s funny, it’s just recently people have asked if my name is Bettie. :) It’s not. I just like the way Zombettie Spaghetti sounds. Some called me Sp00ky DeluXe as well. not sure where that came from, but Jenn is part of the name on my birth certificate.

Yeah, job hunting is hell, but worse is the stress associated with not knowing how the bills are going to get paid. There is a homeless native american transexual hooker who hangs out in our neighborhood and occassionaly craps in front of our house. My biggest fear as that I will have to live la vida loca with her. I need a toilet to crap in.

Tonight I saw He Was A Quiet Man with Christian Slater. Not exactly in the vein of what’s been rolling up in here lately, but I have to say it was some pretty intense and good stuff.

I am about to snuggle up with the cats and watch Terror Train.
I love the 80s!

I hope everything works out, Jenn.  I went through the same thing a few months ago and everything worked out.  I know it’ll work out for you.  I feel pretty crappy jibber-jabbing about movies without saying something about it.  Did you like Terror Train?  I remember when I was a kid the video box pretty much sold me on that film—with the creepy train conductor wielding a knife and wearing that funky mask.  I bought the dvd at a used cd store for a couple of bucks—well worth it.

Anyway, I watched Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Kairo a couple of nights ago.  This and the Ring was my intro into Japanese horror.  It’s one of my all-time favorite Japanese movies.

I also saw Alberto de Martino’s The Antichrist—an Exorcist clone.  It’s well-made and cheesy fun.  I also watched Jorge Grau’s Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue.  I hadn’t seen it for a while and it’s still pretty fun.  Going to make a 180 degree turn and watch Danny Boyle’s Sunshine tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks Hans. So far it’s going well enough. The first few days were scary, but I have two interviews scheduled for tomorrow and both sound good. :) Keeping my fingers crossed!

So Terror Train ... I still need to watch it. I ended up falling asleep as soon as I crawled into bed, and have been focusing more on the job hunt. Now that i have some time, I can return to my regularly scheduled programming.

I am not super big into the Japanese movies, especially the ones that are remade into American ones, though I am sort of interested in seeing the Eye. Not sure why.
I do really love The Tale of Two Sisters, which I hear is also being remade into an America blockbuster. Blah!

I watched the latest Danny Boyle/Alex Garland opus, Sunshine, last night.  A little too rich for my blood, but I enjoyed watching it once.  I’d probably give it two-and-a-half or three out of five.  If you like sci-fi a lot, then you’ll definitely like this one more than me.

I love Sunshine. Whether or not you’re into sci-fi, it’s a very impressive film.

I actually haven’t see anything since Silver Bullet, and that was at least a week ago. School’s a b**ch…

Well, I did order The Deadly Spawn from Amazon. Can’t wait to check it out.

I want to start a Deadly Spawn squadron. It would be an elite branch of the Cinema Diabolica Legion who use alien tadpole monsters as weapons.
