Y’all mentioned that you’ll be covering these two films in an upcoming episode.

I’ve seen the trailer for The Dunwich Horror, and it looks interesting.

I saw Cthulhu at this past year’s HP Lovecraft Film Festival.  I have mixed feelings about the movie.  Lovecraft scholar ST Joshi has made it fairly clear that he loves the freakin’ movie, claiming that it’s probably the truest adaptation of a Lovecraft story when it comes to mood and theme and blah-blah-blah, but I didn’t really see that.  The movie’s all right, but . . . I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying that the movie’s the best representation of Lovecraft on the screen.  There were a few other elements that I found questionable, but the acting was solid, and the direction was definitely compentent, but I wonder if the story would have been better served as its own tale rather than glomming onto Lovecraftiana . . .

Can’t wait to hear what you guys think!  There definitely needs to be more Lovecraft talk in the podcast-sphere!

Are you talking about the one by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society?  Presented as a silent film in “Myth-O-Scope”?  If so, then, yes, sir . . . !  Also saw it on the big screen at a previous year’s Lovecraft Film Fest’, and I freakin’ LOVED IT.  I’m kinda-sorta friends w/ the filmmakers, and I can’t wait to see their follow-up, The Whisperer in the Darkness (check out the trailer at http://www.cthulhulives.org/Whisperer/trailer.html.

If you’re not talking about this version of The Call of Cthulhu, then, um . . . nevermind . . . :)

I am indeed. I also loved it. The only gripe I had with the film was that with all the other processes used to create a convincing silent film, why couldn’t they select an appropriate frame rate on their cameras???  All DV cams have the frame rate selection option and a slower frame rate would have looked more like film.

As it is the picture is far to clear, sharp and smooth. (I never thought I’d say that.)

Odd

I suppose of all the complaints to have, you could do a lot worse!

What do you think of their trailer for their next project?
