Every year, I post a little-mini-awards-thing over on my blog, and last week, I posted this . . .

Blog’D Award - Best New Multi-Host Horror Podcast - Cinema Diabolica.

Holy crap! Now THIS is a solid podcast! The production is tight. The hosts are energetic and entertaining. The subject matter is fascinating. The only downside is that it’s only released once a week.

To be fair, Cinema Diabolica covers more than just horror films; horror’s naughty cousins gialla, exploitation and cult films are also explored, discussed and disected by hosts F13 and DZ. The Christmas episode featured Nazi-sploitation. An earlier episode covered the film “Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key”. No cult subgenre is left untouched by this show.

The two hosts smoothly complement each other. They dive right into the show in their opening banter/monologue, and only the occasional station break provides a break from their uncanny ability to engage their listeners from the moment they hit play on their iPod/Zune/whatever.

Aspiring podcasters can learn a lot from Cinema Diabolica, and only have to fear the inevitable intimidation since the show’s just that good.

By the way - I lose my two co-hosts this weekend because they are off at the MIT Mystery Hunt, a two-day puzzle spectacular. Seriously -  they sit in a room, stink, eat crappy food and solve puzzles.

I also though the Supernatural Xmas was the best holiday-themed episode of the season. Funny, weird and good use of the old-school “Special” chyron that spins up before the episode started.

That’s quite a list. I feel like there is something missing. Something about a weekly pop culture podcast that is thoughtful, funny and awesome….

Hehehe . . . You know, no offense, but I only just started listening to your show, Alyssa . . . :(  I’ve started going through the older episodes, and I’m damn near caught up, though!  (And, darn it, y’all are gonna make me go and add Dexter to my Netflix queue . . . !)

Would my seconding Dexter be the tipping point for you BrotherD? Dexter is such a fun show. I expected being meh’d by it, but right after I finished disc one (in one sitting) I was back at BigBox Video to get the second.

And F13, it would be a +5 Axe of DECAPITATION! COLOR SPRAY! CHAIN LIGHTNING!
I do like variety. The axe would also have to be Keened to lower the Threat Range thus increasing the odds of a beheading.

You know, with Alyssa, Amy, you and most of the other people I know that ar einto this whole horror-thing telling me I need to watch it, I’ll eventually get ot it . . . Grrr . . . Actually, I am going to be looking for something to watch on my iPod while at the gym . . . Hmmmm . . .

I don’t know if Dexter works on a tiny iPod screen. I mean, it will, but man - it looks great on a bigger TV screen. And if you can get it in HD - wow.

By the way, I’ve reviewed both seasons of Dexter, the source material (I think I’ve done all the books) and had a Very Dexter Christmas special - twice.

Apparently I am the source for all things Dexter. At one point I think Dexter was on the imaginary baby name list, but now I think it will be regaled to the lists of stuff you can’t name your kids like Damien and Adolph.
