So I felt like a stupid douche after the show this week because I had to admit that I hadn’t yet seen the Crow. Well, I rented it tonight and I suppose I’ll watch it after I’m done with Tron (which is, by far, the nerdiest thing I have ever seen).

The Crow’s a great movie. If you like it, check out Dark City, too.

See it’s funny, because I’ve actually seen Dark City and I like it a lot. What’s more, I knew that it was an Alex Proyas joint, and I knew that he’d made his mark with the Crow and yet, somehow, I just never got around to seeing it. Oh well, it’s just another film to check off my ever growing list of films to see before I die.
DZ and I were actually talking about that when I met up with those guys. Once you get into this thing and decide that you want to be able to speak about movies with some sort of authority, you really have to give up a big chunk of your life to it, because there’s a seemingly limitless supply of films that seem to be important to the history of the medium in one way or another, no matter how obscure. For example, I had no intention of going on a Paul Verhooven binge until I watched one of his early Danish films (Spetters) and realized that there was a lot about the guy that I didn’t know and at least a half a dozen more films to add to my queue.
Jesus man, this is sickness that simply won’t end. Even if they stopped making new films from now until the day I died, I don’t think I’d be able to explore everything that I want to.

No complaints though.
Amen to that. I always feel pretty embarassed when I listen to ShowShow, considering I’ve never seen most of the films you mention. Hmm…
I just saw The Ring and Ils (Them) for the first time. I absolutely loved The Ring, despite a few unanswered questions (which, honestly, should probably remain unanswered). I didn’t really care for Ils, though. It bored me, and I thought the ending was a bit silly.
P.S. Anybody care to take a look at my Queue and tell me which five movies I should choose next? I need to start prioritizing.
A Tale of Two Sisters. =) Also Them, Hard Candy, and Sleepaway Camp.
Thank you! Any thoughts on a fifth?
Hmm…I don’t think it’s on your list, but it should be:
2LDK
It’s a fun, kind of nasty movie about 2 roommates who can’t stand each other and end up battling to the death. I especially recommend this movie to anyone who’s ever had a roommate.
I just moved a couple of category 3 films from China to the top of my list. I couldn’t find The Untold Story, but I did get Dr. Lamb and Ebola Syndrome. The second is probably going to give me a panic attack.
In My Skin
Trainspotting
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
There Will Be Blood
2001: Space Odyssey
Blood Car
From Beyond
The Company of Wolves
We Are the Strange
Idiocracy

Quite a selection, I’d say.
Hooray! We’re impacting your life through film! I’m really interested to see what you think of In My Skin. It almost made the friends that I took to the theater puke.

It certainly sounds… different. However, it’s #56 on my Queue, so it might take a while for me to get around to seeing it… unless I bump it up, of course. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure I want to.
I’m re-watching His Girl Friday, Born Yesterday and Some Like It Hot for a term paper. So far, Born Yesterday is the biggest revelation of the three, as I knew the least about it when I first started watching it. Judy Holiday is amazing and William Holden’s been a favorite of mine for a long time now (“Why is it that a woman always thinks that the most savage thing she can say to a man is to impugn his cocksmanship?”).
Also making my way through season five of Buffy. I half-hate Dawn. I’ve heard that’s a popular way to feel about the character, but the half of the her that I find myself liking has more to do with concept, rather than execution.
Lastly, just watched Tron and Krull for the first time. I had a lot of fun with both of them.
